so im trying to take my intake manifold off. I got the top bolts off (very easy) but the bottom bolts underneath the runners are really hard to get to. Is there some sort of trick I can do to get to the bolts underneath the runners? any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just did this a few hours ago and all I did was jack up the car and remove the 3 14mm bracket bolts that brace the bottom of the manifold. Then after that I removed the remaining 4 or 5 12mm bolts and voila the manifold was off.

I found it easier with the downpipe off on a 1g AWD. Also, gearwrenches work really well in this application. I highly recommend them!

With the car on jack stands, i crawled underneath and removed the support bracket.

Wrapped my wrenching hand with an old T-shirt, so that my palm is heavily cushioned. The T-shirt helped me push the

enough to loosen the lower intake manifold bolts. BTW, this was done from under the car.

I didn't take anything off I moved the start and took off the throttle body and I was able to get to them all with a 12mm wrench.

Its Also alot easier with all of the wires for the injectors tps etc. out of the way as well it made it alot easier for me I had Alot of space.

Removing the uicp, battery, and battery tray helped with my 1G. Beyond that I just took of the injectors, fuel rail, etc for more space. Simply reaching under the mani with this stuff off did the trick for me.

i use a ratcheting wrench.

you know,
the normal box wrench that has the ratcheting closed end side. probably my favorite set of tools.
perfect for tight places that need a lot of turns.

Well im trying to put together everything you guys are saying and then im going to apply it. and yes i did read everything :beatentodeath:

The only way i could see this being difficult is if you have a cyclone intake manifold but since you don't there are only 5 bolts holding it on just take out the battery and start from that side. So try it that way if all else fails jack up the car like they said and do it from the bottom and take off the down pipe.

Get under the car and reach up through the back of the motor. There's a good sized opening by the driver's axle that you can reach up and get to the underside of the manifold fairly easily. Just like everybody else said, use a ratcheting wrench.

ROFL You Guys Are Silly...If he takes the head off he can have all the room he needs to take the intake mani off...j/k

Take the brace off and use a gear wrench.

+1. That's probably the best explanation anyone can give you for your question.

I just jimmied my hand in by the throttle body... also I have been told that it's easiest to get off if you take the intake manifold and head connected together off the car. But if you're not trying to take the head off then that doesn't apply.

Yea I figured its :barf: to remove the intake in the car, so When I did my head rebuild I left in on and removed afterwards, if your not yanking the head though you should go from the bottom its the easiest :thumb:
