how to remove front wheel speed sensor from arm

well i tried to pry it out with a screw driver....now its broke!!!! ahhhhhhhh this axle replacment turned nightmare is gettiing worse. How hard will it be once i get this all straightend out to replace this sensor?

Found another thread that says they have to be destroyed. THAT SU(KS. Any other opinions?

The two axles jobs I did required destroying the speed sensors too. I've seen them at different dealers anywhere from $60 to $120, but ABS isn't THAT important to me.
 
This might be a stupid question but why did you have to destroy the sensors in order to do the axles?
