ok i did a search and found nothing, My question is what is the best way to take the engine out of the 420A n/t 2nd gen eclipse gs. Ive looked throught the haynes manual and didn find any thing on it. Any help would be great thanks.

Some would probably say different but for me on both my non turbo and my turbo when taking the engines out and putting back in it was VERY useful to have a good engine hoist with a engine load leveler attached to it. It will help you to angle the engine any way you need to get it out with as little pain as possible. I took my stock 7 bolt outta my turbo after getting it all disconnected in about 15 minutes by myself with the help of the leveler and hoist. I would also personally recommend that if taking everything out you take the engine and tranny out together as it was much easier this way for me but others will say to disconnect the tranny and pull them separate.

so your pulling it out of the top, i have seen people say take it out of the bottom. Where are you hooking to hoist... engine mounts?

IMO (I Have done it both ways), the top makes much more sense and is easier. If you have a leveler, that makes it easier as well (I use appropriate placement on my pulling chain to get the engine to angle correctly). Its nice to pull off the pulley and alternator first (gives you a bit more "maneuvering room"), but you can do it without.

A few easy steps to help.
Take off the intake to the throttle body and remove the battery
Jack the front end up and brace it.
Take wheels off and there is a bolt on the bottom of the suspension that holds the wheel and brake assembly on
Un-bolt the half shaft form the wheel and pull it out of transmission
Hook up a engine hoist and unbolt the mounting brackets
It will then be loose in the engine compartment and you can move it (carefully) around a little to help take off the sensors, ac pump, alternator, power steering pump, and all other odds and ends including anything still bolted on your trans
Then pull the long block and trans in one swoop
I apologize in advance for anything I missed and I know the more knowledgeable members will correct me.

Why preface your post with "I did a search and found nothing"? We assume you didn't find anything if you're creating a new thread.

It's difficult to believe you didn't find anything on how to remove the engine, though; it's one of the most commonly asked questions.

Well I did only search this forum.... but in my quest to find a detailed "engine removal" turorial I have found many post with people asking and 2-3 ways to get it out but no one has done a detailed (pictures included) thread on how to remove...

If you want a detailed tutorial IMO it is best to buy a $20 Chiltons guide or similar. I was 18 when I removed my first 420a and I knew nothing about engines but that book gave step by step instructions that made it easy plus all the torque numbers and tightening sequences needed to put everything back together. I don't know if there is a write up yet on this with pics but might be a good idea for the new members section. I won't be pulling mine again untill fall but I would be happy to do it. Good luck :thumb:

I have the Haynes but it doesn't go to far into engine removal Ill check out the Chiltons.

I have a Chilton I'll take a look and let you know tomorrow if its any better than the Haynes. When are you looking to pull your block? Your sentences are way more coherent now that your sober "K as in cool" dawg :D (no offense)

Later this month, i still have to get a hoist. Let me know about the Chiltons.
