i have a 90 lasor rs turbo.... i bought an 12v electric buzzer but it is for something else i think. i cant get it to buzz..... but i do have a voltage ohms multimeter and i heard that there is a way to pull ECU codes with it.... does anybody know how to do this or know a link to the instructions?

it says in order to use a anolog volt multimeter(wich i have) you just count the pulses displayed....
but i dont understand... has anyone do this before?..... whe i try and displays 10.6 over and over but then it will just jump the numbers around too ....

basicly does anybody have a manual that says how to do it that they can tell me because it says how to do it in the manual but i dont have the money right now to go buy one for myself..

thanks...

Don't worry about reading the voltage. All you have to do is read the "sweeps" or when the needle jumps across the meter. When the needle makes a "long sweep" or "slow sweep", that means a double digit number such as 3_ if it makes 3 sweeps. Then it makes a "short sweep" or "quick sweep". These are the single digits such as _3 if it makes 3 quick sweeps. So together the code would be 33. Then you would comapre to a chart of codes.

After one code is completed, if there is a second code it will provide that one before repeating. They are produced in numerical order.

Sounds like you have a digital, not an analog. Analog means one with a sweep needle, not numbers.

You can also just use a test light.

digital multimeter is best. set for like 10 second read, you can get like 3 or 4 codes at a time. weve got one at work and it works well for that.

put the positive lead n the signal pin of connector and the ground lead on the ground of the connector. then read the waves. long wave is first number of the code, short wave is second of could. if you can adjust the view time, put it longer than 5 seconds. 10 is what i set mine at.

All you need is some wire and led bulb, alligator clips and count the number of blinks, I will look for the directions on how to read the blinks.

http://www.dsm.org/archives/1998/09/...07.txt/23.html this is the site under 5 dollars. This is how i did it and I made it permanent so if a code ever comes up again I just look at the LED light and count the blinks

ECU Code Checking <--- this link doesnt explain how to do it with an LED light counting blinks...

and that other link up there sounds like the one i need but the link didnt work... so i guess ill search for this..... does anybody here know how to count the blinks???

i have everything here already that i need to do it

go to tech in dsmtuners then FAQ'S then search pulling codes then its go in the first thread that comes up and the web site. when you get there it will work sorry dont know why it did not work

As far as testing goes... it's going to be the same as the needle tester but instead going to be long flash and short flash.

Had a CEL the other day - pulled out my little meter, stuck the leads where it shows in either the Chiltons or the VFAQ pix description and the list of pulse codes (I also cheated and got small alligator clips that I can attach to the lead tips which the alligators can keep locked on the pins in that connector so this test can be hands free), set the voltage to 15vdc, turn the key to "on" and counted the needle swings ..

three longs and one short .. "dang it! .. My Knock sensor is going kaput on me."

..ordered a new one - I wonder why my car at certain times just didn't have the 'spunk' as it should be....

Knock sensor is retarding my timing.
