so just wondering, what is the PROPER way to break in a new turbo? i'm buying a used turbo from a 3g guy w/ 1k miles on it and want to know if he properly broke it in or not...and if he didn't what would be some of the problems? ### reply with any insight and information..i'd really appreciate it..thanks

Oh, sorry man. I wasnt trying to be snotty/sarcastic or anything. I was trying to be funny/sarcastic. I read your pm: I'm glad I could help. :D

It is better on your car to pull the connectors off of the fuel injectors than to unplug the ignition. That way you won't fill the cylinders with fuel. Then crank the engine over 3 - 5 times at 10 second intervals. 30 seconds is too long and will overheat your starter.

dont unclip your injectors. what a pain in the rear. just lift the carpet in the back and unplug the connector that goes down to the fuel tank. Then before you do the install start the car to clear the line of fuel. It will run for maybe more than 15 seconds. Nothing more. not to be a turd or sound snoody like some people in here. no offense

I agree with pulling the MPI fuse. Disconnecting the fuel pump will leave you with fuel pressure, unpluging the sparkplug wires could damage your coil, unpluging the injectors could be a pain in the butt, pulling the MPI fuse is as easy as it gets!!

hey whats up, i just installed a evoIII 16g in my 95 tsi and i was wondering what the best method of breaking in the turbo is?
thanks alot

He's right. However I would suggest to do a little of casual driving, to get a good feel of how the car feels before you slam it. :thumb:

Just make sure you primed it before you start it up you will be fine. Just make sure your oil pressure is up.

what do you mean ? How do you prime a turbo without starting the car ?

Pull the MPI fuse and crank the car for a few seconds. It allows oil pressure to be built and feed to the turbo.

As for the turbo break in i just kept it under 5 grand for a little while after I installed my evo 16g.

allu have to do is pour a little oil in the oil feed line dor the turbo, or just pour it directly into the turbo where the oil line runs too. let it idle for a few minutes and go to town wit hit. :thumb:

I am having a Big28 turbo installed on my 98GSX very soon and was hoping someone could describe the breaking-in process for the turbo. Is there a maximum boost level that should not be exceeded, etc.... I will also be adding pretty-much all of the Stage 1 mods...

There is NO breakin period for a turbo. Just make sure you prime it before you start the car.

Do a search for "install priming turbo" and you should find some answers on that part.

As for the limitations. Well that all depends on your current state of mods.

I will be installing a new turbo today, and I was just wondering if there is a proper break in process? I searched for this but all I got was "engine breakin"
it is a BT28...
Thanks!
Shawn

Besides pulling the ignition fuse and turning the car over a few times to prime the turbo with oil, I there is nothing else special that you need to do.

Most people say for any type of break in, drive the car like you normally would. sooo...
If you rip it occationally do just that. If you dont beat the piss out of your cars then dont beat the piss out of it when you install the turbo. If you baby it well then...why did you upgrade a turbo?? LOL good luck dude.

Is there any break in period for a new turbo like a new car or anything like that? Just wondering cause i'll have my new turbo on within the next 2 weeks hopefully. thanks

Most people say keep it out of boost for at least 500 miles, some people like to go even longer, I've got a buddy or two who went 3,000 miles to break it in. Whatever works for you, but i'd say break it in for at least 500 miles.
