Toronto,
I'm having some alternator problems so until I can get it fixed I'm trying to manually charge my motomaster spiral cell AGM battery (red top I believe.)

So what readings should I get for a spiral cell to know that it's full? I bought an intelligent charger but after the battery gets to 100% it dips down again when I measure it. So I figure measuring by Voltage would be more accurate.

Thanks

It doesn't really matter if the lead is in the shape of a spiral or flat plate, the voltage will be the same. A fully charged battery should be between 14.5 and 15 volts when fully charged. It might drop a bit when you test it but if it drops significantly the battery might be shedding from being drained due to your bad alternator. Any decent parts store can test it, regardless of the shape of the lead plates.

Um, no......Absolutely not. How are you figuring that a 12 V battery is actually 15 volts????

A fully charged battery should be right around 12.6V. It uses 6 Pb plates in series that produce between 2.0 - 2.1V each. So the voltage, based on the construction of the battery, will be between 12.0 and 12.6V when fully charged.

The optimal voltage to recharge a battery with, is 13.2 - 14.4V.

Please don't post misinformation on this board, it is not taken lightly.

Spyderturbo nailed it on the head, your battery should be around 12-12.6v when fully charged, yiou should take it to any local auto parts store and have it tested.
