How to find out if the oil pump is bad

The garage that has my car is trying to figure out whatis wrong with my car. I have a 99 gst and it has what I thought was a lifter tick but guess not as the lifters were changed and new 3g lifters installed. The car is still making the same noise as before and they cant figure out why yet. I thought maybe oil pump, so my question is what is the best and easiest way to find out if that is what it is.

I know this is gonna sound stupid but how do you and what should i look for when i inspect my oil pump.

Pull the oil pump and see if either of the 2 gears are digging into the aluminum case. Also pull the gears out and inspect the shaft(the smooth part of it where it rides), then turn them and feel for binding, roughness or tight spots. Pull the balance shafts while your this far into it if it hasnt been done already.

Simple- if you have good oil pressure, your pump is probably fine. If your pressure is low and you're sure the engine bearings are in good condition, you probably need a new pump.

Grooves in the case are bad...normal wear is OK. If you see any grooves deep enough to catch your fingernail you probably need a new case. Some cases come with gears, some don't....the case is aluminum so it will score before the gears do.
