So got another issue y'all. I am needing to replace my tires. No big deal with that my problem lies in the piece of junk lugs that came with the car. They have this lock that just nothing matches so I have tried drilling them. With gettin them to bout a 3/8" hole I beat an Alan key into it and pop it's off. Well got two of them that would not just go pop I tried everything. I'm planning on taking a grinder with a metal cut wheel and cutting the rim out away from it. Point of this is so I will actually have some room to work these rims suck to no clearance to get cheater sockets on it. Any suggestions before I hack away at the rim.
 
Get a sacrificial socket that just barely fits around the outer wall of the lug, 12 point would be better. Cover the lug and inside of the socket with jb weld enough to create a seal. Make sure you dont fill the drive hole, otherwise you won't be able to get a wrench into the socket. Let the jb weld dry and harden completely. Then torque it off as a solid piece. Each socket you use will forever be attached to the lug, but it should hold up to the force necessary. jb weld has never let me down!
 
Go to Sears and get a GatorGrip socket. The pins in the socket fit in the little grooves on the wheel lock and it turns right off. We used the GatorGrips at the shop I used to work for when people didn't have their lug keys.
 
just for future reference. KIA uses those same locks on their cars from the factory. Call the closest kia dealership and order one.
 
This is going to sound really racist but...................

Find a tire shop that is run by a bunch of Mexicans. They are guaranteed to have the right key. I searched for an entire week one time for a key to that exact same lug nut. I searched Indianapolis, a couple other towns, and finally ended up at a tire shop called "Big Wheels". Took that little hombre about two seconds to find the right key.

But seriously, I don't stereotype.
 
Autozone carries the lock key for those. Or you can buy a universal lock key set online. We have cars come into the shop with all sorts of different locks, so we have to carry one of each. Good luck getting them off though.
 
or you could follow my suggestion and call up kia and get the right lock then easily unbolt the wheel with the....CORRECT key. hell, ill ship you the one i have for my moms kia if you pay shipping both ways
 
grind the top, weld a 1/2" extension to it, then ratchet it off.

or go to a local Tire store, and have them remove the nut, I could have sworn that's the pattern for the locking lug on my GSX wheels.

This makes the most sense at this point.
 
Unless he already has a welder, it's going to be easier to just buy the lock key. They are only 4 dollars. It will take your headache away because all you will have to do it stick it on the lug and pull it off. Pretty simple if you ask me.

My mom had that same lock on her Civic and when she got a flat I couldnt find the key, I ran to vato zone and got the key for like 5 bucks.
 
I do not know how many times he said he had been to autozone and advanced and every other part store trying different wheel locks and they didn't work.



i had the same problem. I drilled a hole in the wheel lock.. hammered in a half inch extension into the center and used an impact to break it loose. I broke 4 extensions because whoever had it before me had locking lugs on every one. If i had a welder i would have went the route of welding on an extension, and if no welder the air chisel with a spade end would have been my other route.
 
get a chisel and a hammer and chisel the corner until it breaks loose. works every time. just be careful not to hit the rim.
 
You could just take a socket that almost fits and pound it over the lug and then turn the socket until the lug comes off
 
just a heads up, aside from useing the proper key.. all the beating and bashing .. i'd look in to replacing the studs when you do finally get them off, and besides if you dont like the rims you can always sell them to some one who would like them, welding might pooch the rims just my thoughts
