How often should one replace the Oil cooler!

How often should one replace this part!? I was inspecting mine today and it looks very old;
just about ready to give out, any suggestions?

would an after-market be better, I'm not going beyond 400hp!
 
You sure you were looking at an oil cooler? Might want to update your profile if you are.

I'd say go with a B&M oil cooler. It's not really about horsepower as much as it is about street-ability. The longer you'd like to be able to thrash on your car in one sitting is the factor you need to look at here. if you do, you're going to need an extra $50 in just stainless steel lines and fittings; that's provided you do already have a 90 oil filter housing, and that it's tapped for -8AN line.
 
ive got the b&m on mine and it works great like he said though it makes you be able to trash it more without hurting the engine cause cooler oil means ure componets are being covered better which means your engine will last longer
 
Lets try this again. Do you have a 90 oil filter housing? If not, you do not have an external cooler. You have an internal, meaning coolant flows near the oil filter to cool down the oil. You need to buy a 90 oil filter housing to have external. Once you've done that, then go to eBay. There they have a FMIC and oil cooler combo for $200 shipped. You're going to need pipes tho, and that'll cost you another $200. $400 for both is an unbeatable deal.

If you do buy that eBay kit, dont use that shit oil filter adapter. Get a housing and tap it, you'll thank yourself down the road.
 
I have an Earl's oil cooler with AN fittings and SS lines; it's a nice unit. THe stock 'oil cooler' is really a joke. If you drive in higher temp climates or do any sort of racing, it sure won't hurt. Besides, they look cool sitting in one of the bumper openings. :D
 
No! 50Trm I'm sure it's the oil cooler, remember when I crash that one time!? it kinda F@k it up.
 
Isn't that something you would find in a Automatic (water/oil) cooled!?
 
The subject on that matter is debatable. I know in my auto, I have no tranny cooler. It's built into the radiator. Some people do have a seperate cooler though that looks like an intercooler. I wonder what models/years did that happen.

I promise you have an external tranny cooler. My 2g had one. And my stock tranny cooler did not look like an intercooler, it looked like an oil cooler. Look in your driver side bumper duct and you will see the tranny cooler. If that is too easy, then follow those 2 annoying hard lines from the tranny along the lower bottom of the radiator and to the tranny cooler.

yep thats where my 2nd one is at, goes like this Trans->rad->drive side cooler->aftermarket one infront of rad,small thing-> back into trans.

I'd be shocked if your's really didn't have one. Why would Mitsubishi make some and some without? Beats me. Sure throw up pictures.

Same car I have now. It was auto before I swapped it to manual.
 
It may be a 98-99 thing because they moved our charcoal canister and other smog equipment to that side of the bumper from underneath the battery in the 95-97 cars.
