2G How much tourqe for the valve cover bolts on my GS-T

im replacing my valve cover and need to know how much tourqe im supposed to dial in. theres a longer set of bolts on the outside of the valve cover(8) and theres (6) where the spark plugs are.

It's really low, I believe under 5 lb/in. I just use a 1/4 ratchet and tighten them to their snug. Whatever you do, don't force them. The valve cover will break and you be sad, like I was when mine's broke.

Just make em finger tight, and about another 1/4 turn.

Snug em up and then a 1/4-1/2 turn after snug. It will seem like they need to be tightened more but don't worry about it.

Yes it will be the same for all of the bolts. And if you want added security torque them in sequence like a head gasket would be.

I do the inside first then I move on to the outside.

The VC breaks easy.

I read in the book that it was something like 24-36 in/lbs. I said, um, I don't have a torque wrench that small, so I tightened them until they felt snug, then gave them each another teeny 'oomph.' I didn't feel like breaking the brand new bolts I got so I left it at that. And wouldn't you know it, not a single leak

I need three sets of hands to count how many times I've gotten out an in-lb torque wrench to tighten 4G63 valve cover bolts to that spec without any problems, so that seems odd to me.

Me too. I find it really hard to believe someone broke a rocker cover bolt at 3 ft lbs torque.

Just make them snug, you dont want to crack it..

I just use a nut driver and snug em up, Inside to outside. I will also check them once a week for 2 weeks to make sure they stayed. Never had a problem.
