Yo guys whats up. I was wonderin if any of you could tell me what all internals i need done to my engine if i bought a Star/Hahn stage II turbo kit. (i dont need the engine scattering) No i'm not just going out and buying a turbo i cant afford the insurance. So just if anybody could tell me like what i need ex.. forged pistons rods and all that shit i'd appriciate it. later :dsm:

yes use this site .........

GO ALL MOTOR! LOL screw forced induction , though i drool at the guys with it..... LOL

dont put a turbo on a 420a engine , waste of money.... you have to do alot of work on the internals to be able to run over 7psi , thats a WASTE of money..........

though it would be cool to have like a 20psi 420a engine....... LOL:shhh:

Turbocharging the 420a is NOT a waste of time. It is one of the most bulletproof engines I have ever owned. The crank is strong as hell and for all intents and purposes already knifedged. It's proven to hold 600hp. The valves are a mahl alloy which is quite exotic to say the least, and they are much better than any stainless valve you can buy. The tranny is strong enough in stock form for at least 450hp with a good clutch. HRC has beaten the hell out of these things and they just continue to perform.

To the "just buy a turbo" guys - why would he spend another couple grand for a turbo eclipse just to dump the stock crap and upgrade for another couple grand, when you could just do it right the first time? At least the 420a doesn't have to deal with crankwalk issues either. And, the parts selection is growing larger by the day for the 420a. I just don't see the point in wasting twice as much money just to have a "T" on the end of that GS.

P.S. - Oh yeah, the stock internals have held up to 12 psi on 93 octane pump gas. However, 10psi is a good saftey margin for an intercooled system. Chat with Hahn - they know more about t-charging the 420a than most ever will. If you wanna go past 10psi you're gonna need pistons and rods. ;)

If I rebuild the bottom end, is it like having 0 miles on the car again? Should it run like it was brand new?
-Rob

It will be like having zero miles, and it should run great. But remember, the belts, transmission, and other parts are worn....

You will also have to break the newly rebuilt engine in, with about 1,500 city miles, and very low boost. I'd recommend no more than 3-4psi until the break in period is over.

Dang, it has been a while sence anyone has been yelling, or yelled at on this post. I am going to go with the howell bottom end kit. I am wondering if anyone on this post has it, or knows of anyone with it. If I am going to use it as a daily driver, what compression shuld I go with? I also am going to be running a Hahn stage 2 boost, so I want a compression that is good without turbo, but is good with turbo as well. Will I have more horse power with the bottom end kit than I have without it? Thanks guys
-Rob

hey dude i have been checking out the howell bottom end kit as well and it looks pretty sweet but you could just kit the kit and do it yourself but no big difference i think. talk to malenko i think he is getting one from them but not for sure on anyone else though.

I have a 420a that i would rather modify then trade in for the 4G63 too, and the 420a can hold up to 300 hp without making any internal mods. If u want to go any higher then that, you have to replace the pistons and rods or the motor will blow. The hahn stage 3 kit comes with all of the internal replacement parts and other parts that will help running at such a high hp with the 420a, only bad thing is that it has a really high price tag

wrong thread

and if you think you can just remmove the mas and then run a bov, then you might be in for a bumpy ride if you don't do some reading soon.

damn, i got a car and its an eclipse and its an rs and im swappin it with a gts and thats it. all this talk is about the new clipses right? so what can i do with a 94 rs? jack sh*t

So what happened, did he ever get this dynoed. i want to know what the 420a came out with. We should have a bet on this. I bet 195 at the wheels. anyone want to bet?:barf:

wait until end of October beginning of November. Ill be running anywhere from 18-20 psi on my 420A. dependson what comrpession ratio i go with. minimum will be 8.8:1 and up to possibly 9.5:1 even. still working with the guy one what were doing buidling my engine up.

basically, my car will be around the 400-450hp mark. i cant wait till then.

i just recently bought a 98 rs, and its cool or whatever but its got no balls in yet. i put exhaust and short ram on it, and around xmas i want to get the star stage 2 turbo kit.....am i makin a bad choice? or should i stick with the rs....

no ur not makin any bad choices .. most of the turbo guys would say just sell it and get a turbo version.. i say Go for it :)

thanks bro, im really nervous about this car, its my first car...well im lying, i used to have an 88 beretta gt...lets just say i wanted to kill myself...but ever since i heard my first bov and saw my first race, i have known a turbo eclipse was for me....i just dont know too much about "star"....if u have any feedback on them i would be greatful..

i would go with ahn coz off the better customer service and options u can get with any kit u order :)

AIM me we can talk about it :)
strictly DSM

peace

dependning which kit you get you will be replacing some of the parts in either kits as some of them are not very good, but then one kit has stuff better than the other and vice versa

i have a 98 RS and i have the HRC stage 2 kit and i am going run only 8 pounds to start and thats no internals and injectors stock but if i were to pump up my boost which i do i would then get bigger injectors and do some internals like pistons and rods.

A stock RS/GS can handle 350HP to the motor w/ no internals upgraded. woulndt advise it though, would only handle for a few days. you'd be safe if you stayed around 210 - 250 to the motor. but thats also pushing it. it wont die as fast but you will be destroying your motor. i have a 98 GS which i am doing a custom turbo on. T3/TO4E turbo w/ a front mount intercooler. i can get all the pipe work and everything done for very cheap. cheaper than what it would cost for a kit from Hahn or Star. the only thing that is the most expensive is the exhaust manifold. but w/ the mods im doing i should be pushing around 220 - 240 to the motor. a few months later though i'd be replacing some internals, nothing outrageous.

thats tight man....yea if i could be pushin around 250hp in the end i would be more then happy....i have a friend who works for crane cams, hes the sport compact specialist, and hes hookin me up with full ignition, timing gears, valve springs, and a cam.....if ur interested or need anythin like that ill give u the number there and u can check him out.....u would be surprised how much hp u can gain from stuff like that.....oh yea and who would u suggest goin with u for internals....

yeah that would be great, what kinda deals could he get me though? for the internals im not too sure yet, im still looking around. most likely some JE pistons, crower cams, some cam gears, pistons, rods, etc. just the minimal internals needed to hold the power w/o destroying the engine

ummm im not too sure what kind of deal he can hook u up with but ill let him know ur a friend of mine and ur a big fan of crane cams and im sure he will hook it up pretty well....about the internals...thanks for the info.... i just want everythin to be perfect on this car and the last thing i need is to drop a turbo in it and blow a rod through my hood u know LOL....
