how much hp can a 1g awd auto trans hold

The more performace parts i install on my car the more i start to question my trans the car is a 1992 talon tsi awd how much hp is the stock auto trans rated to? my goal is around 350-400awhp what do i need for my trans to handle this it has 77k on it and shifts perfect as of right now.

Im not sure if there is an HP rating, but i have seen stock autos go DEEP 9's with nothing but a shift kit, so you will be fine at that level.

you're auto will handle that no problem
if you want to be on the cautious side, when you upgrade your clutch do an oem tranny rebuild and you'll be set

If the trans is in good shape it'll most likely handle your power goal. But a good IPT high stall converter wouldn't hurt, and the price ain't bad either. That's approximately what I'm shooting for as power goal and I'm not to worry about my auto trans.

thanks guys this takes a lot of worrying away i plan on doing ipt end clutch kit and a restalled converter and revshift manual shift box.

I think a shift kit would be a good upgrade considering the harder a transmission shifts, the less wear there is on the clutch packs. A good stall converter wouldn't be bad either

People usually go with IPT for this; you just need to send them yours and they'll modify it.

A stock manual transmission with 195, xxx miles will have a much harder time handling his power goals.

Yeah, why not see where it takes you. They seem to handle the power well with little/no modifications, provide more consistant et's at the track, be easier to drive, and you get to keep your foot down and stay in boost. What's not to love?

Maybe you've never had an auto apart huh? There is actually a clutch pack within the Automatic transmission that puts you in mind of an ATV or Motorcycle clutch.

There are a couple different end clutch manufacturers that make upgraded clutch packs for the DSM Auto transmission ...IPT sells a couple brands if i remember correctly... Raybestos is one of the better ones if I remember right..its been so long since I looked into having an auto DSM trans built..
