This is for the guys that have rebuilt their whole bottom end. Could be either 4G63 or 420A. How much money did you spend on parts? Include What you spend at the machine shop too?

Probably around $800 for a stock rebuild 6-bolt with 2g pistons including the machining. And they raped me for machining those rods ($250?!?!?). But most of the parts I used were off of ebay.

Slowboys charged me about $125 to balance and polish my crank.... Im not too good with machining prices but $250 just to machine your rods does sounds a bit too much like you were saying

I got ripped off bad, 2,800 to get cylinders bored .020 over, wiseco pistons, the rest was just decking the block and head and routine stuff. I was mad.

I paid $500 for a 4g63 block bored .040 over and xrayed. I think I got screwed a bit on it, but for the Eagle 100mm crank $600, eagle h-beams $275, wiseco stroker pistons $400. So I'm in for about $1775 just for my bottom end.

I knew it was quite pricey to build a bottom with good after market parts.... well a friend of mine said he could get my block bored, honed, and decked for about $150 I thought it was too good be true, since I thought it would cost almost $400 to just get it bored and honed.

my friend who for whatever reason refuses to join this forum has about 2400 into his lower end on a 420a :notgood: that was what it cost for his second lower end anyway, hes getting ready to swap it a 4th time :toobad:

I am estimated at $2335 dollars for everything in my bottom end. Block, pistons, rods, girlde, etc

Thats a lot of money I would say, Im sure he will be spending more $$$ since its the 4th time.... My first DSM had a 420A:D

way mopre than the car is worth but nope building the same, just changing the CAI so it doesnt hydrolock and snap rods again

$160 at the machine shop for:
polished crank
pressed wrist pins
bored and honed 86mm (matched to pistons 0.002" over)
I think most people would have to spend more than that

$80 shipped for ACL race bearings

$400 shipped for 86mm Mahle pistons and rings

$17 shipped for BSE kit from parts dinosaur

water pump and oil pump about $150 with new gaskets

odds and ends about $20

total $827

I thought machine work was expensive, thats why I started this thread just so I have an Idea of how much eveyone has spent on their bottom ends and parts.

Machine Work: 200.00
-Polished Crank
-Bore .02 over and honed with checked PTW clearances
-Decked Block

6-bolt Eagle H-Beam Conrods: 310.00

Wiseco 9:1 CR .02 over Pistons: 430.00

ACL Trimetal Bearings (Rods and Main): 110.00

ARP Head Studs and Main Studs: 130.00

Cometic Head Gasket: 80.00

Total: 1260.00

I'm sure there are a few more things I didn't include like engine assembly lube and other various bits that were bought when actually assembling, but that's the main gyst of it. You get the picture. Some of that can be had cheaper at the deals going around right now, but that's what I paid. You save a TON of money with the ol' DIY assembly method too. :thumb: Mine cranks up everytime and was built by me.

I had around $1100 in machinework (Todd Tremel Racing -- NASCAR builder in Oshkosh, WI). yeah, I know it is ALOT, but it has been well worth it.
*Bore
*Alignhone with torque plate
*clearancing
*balance rotating assembly
*decked
*oil squirter removal, tap, and plug
*magnafluxed
*x-rayed
*etc.

As for parts:

*$400 on Eagle rods, cryotreated, SBR
*$1300 on new 7-bolt BUTCHERED 2.4L crank, cryotreated, FFWD Connection
*$500 on Ross 9.0:1 .020"-over stroker pistons, FFWD Connection
*$500 on ceramic coating, and lubricant coating, cryotreating, FFWD Connection
*$100-150 on ACL coated bearings, FFWD Connection
*$30 on BSEK, FFWD Connection
*$$$ARP mains, and new ARP head studs, Flatlander
*alot more money on new front cover, gears, water pump, hardware, timing belt covers, freeze plugs, head gasket, gasket set, preparation, labor, etc.

***The build was well over $5000 just for the block.

*Times have changed though, and things can be done for less -- back in 2005, there were really no other 7-bolt strokers out there to compare with.

Dam 5,000 is a lot... but im sure it was worth it cause your pushing 740HP.

I had Kevin at jacktransmissions.com put together a stock 6 bolt w/2g pistons/1g rods. With new bearings, rings, oem water pump, oil pump, machining, eliminated BS, front facing oil filter.

Total- $1000

75 for 4 ply headgasket and arp head studs used, arp rod bolt 45 +30 for install, Acl bearings 100, hone 40, new rings 33, deck the block 80. balanced the pistons and rods, 45, balance and polish crank 75. 2g compression pistons and rods where already in the motor too. bs elimintor kit 22. total of $460 for the rebuild of the bottom end.

I'm am getting my freshly rebuilt block back sometime this week, and that should wrap up my 8 month build. I pretty much had everything done to my block and head ( I know you siad bottom end, but my total price is included with head work and I don't have individual prices yet.)

New Parts (bottom end):
Eagle Rods and Ross Pistons (.030 over) combo: $750
Turned a factory 2G crank because Eagle sent 2 out of spec: $200
ACL Race Series Main and Rod Bearings: $90
Total: $1040

Machine Work:
Cleaned head
Installed BC Titanium Valve Springs and Retainers
Regualr check up for head
Cleaned surface for new Cometic MLS Headgasket (.030 over)
Bored cylinder walls .030 over (scratch down cylinder wall)
Line honed each cylinder with pistons and rods in place
Balanced crank (Dead ZEROED---that's a perfect crank)
Balanced crank with ACT 2600, Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel, and OEM Harmonic Balancer
Line bored crank with everything in place (bearings, rods, pistons, etc)
Complete Assemble: Valve cover to Oil pan
Total: $1800

I'm sure I'm leaving something out. I haven't gotten a complete "To Do" list from them yet. It will be in perfect tune needless to say, also with full supporting mods. I may be updating that price. Haven't got final anwer from them, but I'm pretty sure I'm close to it.

Bennett's Speedshop - Haleyville, Alabama: BENNETT RACING ONLINE • 800-240-RACE • #1 ENGINE BUILDER

These guys do great work, as I have been up to see them and they were working on it while I was there (four different times). I am their first 4 cylinder motor, as they are a drag car speedshop, mostly Ford's. However they will work on whatever you hand them and it will be perfect. (Bounced 2 of Eagles "Top of the Line" cranks)

Total: $2840

Not cheap, but when you get quality products and services, you gotta be looking to spend that extra dollar. Do it once, and do it right. - The ultimate DSM downfall LOL! :dsm:

$250 for my current 6 bolt shortblock with great compression.
