ive heard that the 1g's have 6 speakers, even with the base radio. i have the am/fm radio plus tape deck on the bottom. if i have 6 speakers, where are the other 2?

wait a second....so you're telling me that i have 8 speakers in my car?

i still only know of 6....though i did look under the dash and there seems to be a place where speakers could be that would be built into the dash....

not the tweeters though....like underneath?????

With the horn in the middle of the rear speakers, that somehow counts for two. So, eight. Dash tweets, door speakers, and the "four" in the rear.
Beats me. I just play rock-and-roll be-bop shit anyway.

you got 2 1" tweeters in the dash top, 2 in the lower dash by your knees there 4" an 2 in the doors 5.25 an 6.5 or 6X9 in the back.

This is the correct reason why our cars AND others even today account for 8 or more speakers when you physically only see X amount.

the Dash "speakers" are a bit bigger than 1". I believe they are 2" or 2.5". Dropping a 1" tweeter as a replacement will literally be doing that.. dropping down in the abyss of the dash.

The other speakers are on the DOORs, they are 6.5"

The rears are "2-ways" thus the count for each side as "2", and they are 6x9.

Those above should account for most if not ALL 2g "ECLIPSE" GS-T and GSXs. and would be part of the Infinity premium sound package.

Now in terms of 2g talons, its a mixed bag. Even the higher trim TSi and TSi AWD can come with the basic n/t RS system, with no infinity sound amp, and having inferior and smaller speakers. Most notable the rears which are round 6-6.5" but as a positive are held in an OEM speaker adapter which serves perfectly when looking to upgrade because IMO circular speakers sound better to me than 6x9s.

whitehawk, you just said we have 2 4" speakers by our knees, which do not include the 2 speakers on the doors you follow up on..

Is this a rare DSM you have purchased, because I have never seen 2 speakers by the knees ontop of the 2 in the dash, 2 in the doors and 2 in the rear... wow WTF

do you have pics

My Talon came with the separate Infinity half-DIN radio and the CD player under it. No amp. No CD changer. It worked fine, sounded fine, but you couldn't change CDs in 5th. I went through about five different DSM radio setups, including the pretty slick blue-neon 3KGT radio, installed the DIN cable for the rear 10-CD changer and the amp, and then a few years ago Dual came out with a CD player that'd take MP3 discs, and I've not looked back. The only thing better is the VR-3 from Wal*Mart for $80 that not only has MP-3 CD capability, but also a face AUX socket (the Dual had the iPod input), a face-mounted USB socket, and an SD slot. I may never have a CD in a car again. The Blaupunkt I got for another car doesn't even have the CD- just an SD, AUX and USB sockets.
The kid I bought the Talon from had installed Pioneer 6X9s, and I've never messed with any of the speakers. The crap I listen to doesn't care about speakers.

Thanks, I thought it would be the rear speakers. Lol, "8". just another marketing number. Whitehawk said by the knees? You mean those A/C lookin things by our knees? What are those for anyways? Or did I already answer my own question.

Hi guys, just curious. My '97 GST has the supposed 8 speaker Infinity System. All I can see are 6 speakers, the 2 dash, 2 door, and the 2 6x9 rears. So where the heck are the 7th and 8th speakers???

Thanks a ton,

Mike

So i was looking at my factory brochure today for the 98 eclipse model line. I noticed that it says the GST and GSX came stock with an 8 speaker system. Now is this a typo or am i crazy. I definately only have 6 in my eclipse. Whats your thoughts guys.(and i did search to no avail)

Probably a brochure for a different year eclipse. I have seen 2g manuals and it looks nothing like that.
GST and GSX models only came with a 6 speaker system.

You have more than that... Two Tweeters, Two Door Speakers, And the 6x9's in the rear are 2 speakers each, a tweeter and mid range. Yes they total the 2 way speakers as 4 speakers. So 8 speakers!

Thats how they always do it. If your brochure says 6 speakers, you have 6.5" Rear Speakers, not 6x9's. My 98 Had 6x9's in the rear from factory, my 97 had 6.5" in the rear.

oh that kinda makes sense. Kind of missleading though if you ask me.
Ive been trying to put the system back to stock. Just need the infinity deck and the cd changer. that wont be hard to find :)

Its always like that. I noticed it a while ago when I was picking up my first eclipse. It was a 95 GSX with the same setup. Said 8 speakers on the sticker on the window, and I asked why. They didn't know. I counted a set of 6 physical speakers. However the rear speakers are 6x9" 2 way.

They count every single actual speaker, Anything with a magnet. So technically My talon right now has a 16 speaker Pioneer Premier system. LOL

Misleading yeah, but would you prefer a 8 speaker system or a 6 speaker system if you don't know jack about cars? Your teenage daughter will want 8!

None of you noticed 2g's have a place on the dash by the drivers/passengers knees to mount speakers? My buddy moved his door speakers to there.

Just because there is space there doesnt mean it was ever a space to put speakers. By that logic there is space on the ceiling too LOL. Alot of people put speakers there

Just for those who care:

I have a 300 Watt amp that powers (2) 6"x9"'s.......They are 4-way Kenwood speakers. Enclosed in seperate boxes that rest in my "useless" back seats. I attend racing events and the occasional outside party.......So then I simply take the speakers, enclosure and all, and rest them on top of the car.....(have enough extra wire to do so)... and jam out. Just in-case anyone "tailgates" like me, it comes in handy, not to mention it sounds great in the car. And the back seats are useless anyways, and "if need be" just move the enclosures out of the way to the hatch.......

I suppose that you've never actually seen it then... And no, there is not a lot of people that put speakers on the ceiling... Are you an idiot? There is not even enough depth to mount one there. ROFL

I've always wondered what those spaces were for.
What size speaker fits in them, like a 3 1/2?
Do you happen to have any picture of them installed on your friends car?
Now I'm interested in adding some more speakers to mine.:thumb:
