I am getting ready to rebuild my 1997 gst because of a rod knock i would like to know about the bottom ends on theses cars.i want to be around 350hp.All i have done to the car is stage two comp cams.28 big turbo,intake,3in pipe. Also why does every one what a 6bolt in place of 7bolt

A: I can't read your post. Turn your damn Caps Lock off.

B: What do you want to do with your car? 800hp 1/4 mile track monster? Daily driver? Autocross competitor? Want to pull stumps out of the ground? What are your GOALS?

C: Be more specific with your current modifications. Do you have all the supporting modifications for your turbo? What are you using to tune? Are you going to stick with the T28 for a while or upgrade?

I Am Getting Ready To Rebuild My 1997 Gst Just Got A Rod Knock And Wanted To Know What Every One Thought Of The Bottom Ends On These 2g Cars.if I Should Keep It Sock Or Should Upgrade.all I Have Done To The Car Is Stage Two Comp Cams Big28g Turbo From Slow Boy Racing,intake,exhuast3in.new To The Dsm Stuff Thanks

My head hurts, you need to re-write something that can we can actually read.

if your going to upgrade that t28 you should defenintly go with a 2.4 bottom end

If you're going to post advice like that, you'd better have some good reasoning to go along with it, especially after making the following statement just hours ago in a different thread:

He just capitalized the first letter of almost every word. But why?

The forum software detects the Caps Lock and just capitalizes the first letter of each word instead of every letter. Don't ask me why; it just does it that way. It's not like it's any easier to read either way.

For 350hp, that T28, lots of supporting mods, and a VERY good tune will get you there. You shouldn't have to touch the bottom end unless something is wrong with it to begin with.

People switch to the 6-bolt block for many reasons, the primary of which is a lack of the problem known as crankwalk. You can do some research on that if you'd like.

The stock bottom end will hold that all day with a good tune. Granted theres no existing problems. Just make sure you do all the maintance before turning up the boost and throwing performance parts on it.

thanks for the info i will read up on the crankwalk thanks

it really depends on your ultimate power goals. A stock rebuild will be good for a decent daily driver with a decent amount of power. but i would say over maybe 350ish you would want some forged internals. just make sure you get rid of the balance shafts and get a good set of bearings to keep crank walk at bay.

Sorry about that do you have any info for me

The stock bottom end will be fine for 350hp. Crankwalk is not as rampant as everyone implies, although it does happen. I wouldn't say it's time to panic and get a 6-bolt.

In your first post, you said something about rod knock. Since you'll be doing a rebuild make sure to remove the balance shafts while your in there. Also, I would advise you to go ahead and use ARP head studs and a Cometic or Mitsubishi Metal HG.

Other then that, the Search button is your friend.;)

Interesting. I didn't know that. There are a few of the words that were not capitalized though. Strange...

Just stock rebuild it.
You shouldnt have any problems as long as there isnt anything wrong with it now that isnt getting fixed.
Crankwalk dont sweat it it happens but not to everyone.
If you want to have a little peace of mind 6 bolt rods and 2g pistons with arp rod bolts, main bolts, head studs, and a MLS head gasket :thumb:

he said he was rebuilding the motor anyway, if it was me i would just throw some eagle rods and a half decent pistons. it would probably not be that much more expensive than buying the 6bolt rods then having everything machined to fit right. and he would have room to grow if he got tired of the t28 and he will!!

No it would be cheaper to just use some 1G rods. The 1G rod/2G piston I'v seen make over 500hp. His goal is 350hp, hes got some room to grow.

OP dont waste your money on forged internals unless you plan on making over 500hp.

I was gonna say that my suggestion was the cheapest route ROFL

OP this is the easiest way to go and you will have room to grow.
Im doing this right now to my block :thumb:

i know they are a little more pricey, but i like having the insurance i dont have to wory about it. mine gets driven pretty hard pretty often, and more than just drag racing.

As long as your tune is spot on, you shouldnt have to worry about anything with the 1G rod/2G piston combo. This set-up will hold 450WHP all day with a good tune. Plus with the money saved it could be spent other places like more bolt ons.

yea i know but getting ready to build another motor, and pretty much start rebuilding the whole car. the plan is to make at least 450 or over. thats why i am leaning towards forged stuff.

Are we twins ROFL

We are posting the same things

Cryo treat the parts then :thumb:

With a Multi-layer head gasket, and some ARP headstuds...and all your maintaince....the stock 7 bolt is good for 450hp and 10's...just ask Cory with the black 2G from STM

I think this guy is talking about rebuilding his 7 bolt, he simply asked why the 6 bolt swap is so popular. So much nooby-ism in the thread it is hard to breathe.
