i have a 96 talon tsi. i want to stay stock ### i do not want anything to break this is my work car. so i was going to rebuild my turbo not by a new 1. the only mods on the car is a 3 in exhaust and tube header (ill post pics asap). i also plan on a 255 fuel pump and some kind of f/a computer (reflash or piggyback). im looking for 12-15 psi. i want to know if my turbo will spool properly with this exhaust and run good with the light mods?

I would recommend a 190 fuel pump, with the 255 you would need to get an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. If you are wanting to stay stock with stock boost, I don't see why you would even need to upgrade the fuel pump or get a a/f controller.

i want to know about the stock turbo. a friend of mine said he had a prob with his turbo spooling with a tube header. i want to know if someone else had any probs with theirs.

and the idea behind the fuel pump and a/f tune is so if i run too much pis i wont be lean or get fuel cut (i want to run max 15 psi but boost creep could happen and i want to be prepared) lean=boom

i know hes a dumbass thats why im ask'n. if he was right i dont want to make the same mistake.

You shouldn't have to worry about creep with a t-25. Also, to me, rebuilding a t-25 seems kind of pointless. If you want to stay somewhat stock, look into a t-28.

man the cost to rebuild a turbo professionally is 80% what is costs for a brand new 16G (not including the shipping).. either just get a new one or a used one.. If you ask me its only worth rebuilding an expensive big turbo.. you can try to rebuild it yourself with a kit but you might have to get the turbo rebalanced which some companies charge a lot for, or won't perform without a full rebuild. If you decide to rebuild yourself remember to mark the relationship between the compressor wheel and the shaft, and treat the shaft like its made out of gold because the slightest bend can destroy your turbo (.001 inches or greater). I found this out the hard way and now have an evo 16g paperweight for my desk, LOL.

ever check out craigslist? stock turbos are on there for 50 dollars all day where I live, is anything even wrong with your turbo? I have a 1994 tsi fwd on 15 psi with stock turbo with a tube style manifold and stock fuel pump with no programming and it runs great :D

The only reason you'd have problems with spool with a tubular manifold (it's a tubular manifold, not a header) is if you had leaks. Just get a boost controller, a logger, and watch your IDC's. When you hit a bad number (80 is kind of a bad number, 100 is definitely a bad number) turn the boost down a hair. Run good fuel, watch for knock, and you'll be fine.

a rebuild is $275 witch is cheep for peace of mind. i dont trust a used turbo from an internet site (but i do have a listing for turbos local) and i also dont like ebay turbos.

It's been said that tubular manifolds decrease spool time..If your planning on rebuilding you should just upgrade. Why don't you just upgrade to a 14b, or 16g? 14b's are cheap, 16g's are more pricey but you have much more potential espicially for more mods along the way..Also a 16g spools much easier on tubular manifold, which you already have..Watch for cracks in the welds..

Thats real right there..But sending your turbo out gets expensive, really expensive..I'll never do that again(the 16g sitting on the front seat of my talon)..Some folks have had great sucess with just rebuilding there turbos(if the shaft is not screwed before of after). Theres even a tech article on it I think..I wouldnt trust myself, unless I've had practice with a junk turbo..

You also have a 14b, not a t25. Your right about cheap turbo's.

Bull**** What turbo rebuild shop charges $275, for rebuild and balance? The bill I have definatly doesnt say $275...I wish though!

A 190 fuel pump should be more than enough for your desired boost level.
Also if you don't ever plan on upgrading your turbo a 2.5" exhaust would be more thn enough for you.

No way really...Sorry about that..I sent mine to a deisel place in chi town, It was almost $600 without a new shaft, and I supplied the rebuild kit from Mach V..

my turbo has a little shaft play and is leaking oil inside

A little shaft play you can live with, alot you cannot..Leaking oil, sounds like the seals are shot..Does it whine like a supercharger?

someone just offered me a 16g for $300 but no j pipe with it. and i dont know what else ill need for it. he said it only had 1500 miles put on it.

Look in the classifieds.

Read the Rules.

Oh and searching might help.

Don't think in terms of PSI, think - What is your horsepower goal?

I think it just requires a jpipe adapter or something. Heres the link. Or just get the j pipe adapter and a gasket, much cheaper route. Idk if the stock lines will bolt up to the turbo, will someone else chime in on that???
