How does the bell housing attach to the tranny?(AWD)

I don't have my tranny in front of me and I forget, does the bellhousing just bolt up to the rest of the tranny case? I blew a bellhousing, and need to replace just that part. Thanks.

The bellhousing is part of the tranny itself. You will have to disassemble the tranny to replace. You may have to re-shim the barings also to make up for any changes in the new bellhousing. I would reccomend going to http://www.vfaq.com/mods/Trannyrebuild.html and use it for a reference. The factory service manual would help too.
