Ok guys I bought a new bell housing for my 90 awd 5 speed talon and I should have it soon bought it from a guy on here. I'll be doing the swap once I get it is there anything I should be aware of or need any special tools to do this? Any help would be appreciated l.

If it's for a 90 then you're in for a treat. Only the most experienced people with the DSM trans should do this. In 1990 they had many changes with the shift shaft assembly, bearings, shift rail ends, gear-sets, forks, etc. It's not easy and you really need to know what you are doing or it will never shift or work correctly.

This is one of those projects where if you have to ask, then you shouldn't do it. You need pullers, a press, possibly special tools to pull the pins from the rails, measuring tools, etc. The bell housing is the last piece to come off when dissembling the DSM trans.

We charge $350 flat-rate for repairs like this and that includes complete tear-down of the trans, complete cleaning with our state-of-the-art equipment, inspection of all parts, and reassembly of the unit proper. Of course that $350 doesn't include any additional parts needed, shipping, or a warranty, but it's done correctly by people intimately familiar with the unit and the changes made between your two housings.

What happened to your original housing? If it's cracked due to someone installing the unit incorrectly without alignment dowel pins or all of the correct bolts, then that can be easily fixed. We weld many housings here and never had one ever come back.
