I understand on the manuel cars the car has to be in 4 th gear to get a proper read out, what gear would an auto meter best in, and also how would you keep the thing from down shifting gears on ya? Thanks in advance :dsm: :talon: :laser: :)

That's probably because in most cars 4th is a direct drive, removing one math problem from the drivetrain equation.
In an automatic, you have the torque convertor soaking up a fudged amount of power, so I suppose you'd just drive. I don't know how you deal with downshifting under load. But I'll bet the guys running the dyno do.

at school we used third gear with a manual for the dyno's....and with automatic we just gave it gas and let it shift into 3rd and hold it at 3500 rpm then floor the piss outta it

Dont we 2g's have electronic lockers in the TC?

What I do is get the car up to a 50 MPH cruise and then floor it-- at that point it won't downshift. If there's a way to do it better, I'd love to hear about it, because I think this method may make the HP readings a little low-- I only managed 208 WHP with a Big16G last time, although it was on the stock SMIC at only 17 PSI.
