How does a 60-1 supposed to sound??

I recently went from a big16g to a 60-1 w/ a 4in inlet,turbonetics mani,and tial 38mm,850cc,255,DSMlink..I knew if i got a new turbo it would be louder. But with the 60-1 on its about 10times louder and sounds like an obnoxious fart cannon..I cant even hear the damn Blow off vavle anymore. My car does not sound even like a turbo anymore its gettin to the point where i wont even spool my turbo when coming home at night in my neighboorhood. I was just wondering if a 60-1 is supposed to be that obnoxiously loud..or could it be the fact that i still have a catylic converter? i have a full 2.5 hks exhuast with the cat. It sounds like a Lawn MOWER!

Dont know for sure if it should be louder but...

a 2.5 inch exhaust is too small for that turbo and the power you'd be making. Go 3 inch

If you have the external gate venting to the atmosphere, it will sound like a giant exhaust leak when you fully spool the turbo and the wastegate opens.

Maybe yours does. Mine sounds damn cool though. I don't know if you just have a different opinion on it or something is wrong with your Turbo, which I tend to doubt. Just get used to it. You'll learn to enjoy it

well, the wastegate is venting to the atmosphere. Even at idle it sounds like a lawn mower. It makes me nervous coming home late at night and lettin it turbo time afraid neighbors get pissed. But I understand it would make a big differnece in sound when gettin this turbo but its at the point where i think something might be wrong with the setup i dont know I got the BLitz BOV and i dont even hear it when i drive. Just miss that sound..but ill get it checked out probably, Anyone have any clips(mp3s, videos) of a dsm that has a 60-1 in it? Just link it here or PM me. Thanks

Lol, I get the same feeling when I get home late at night and I want to turbo time my car. Anyway, my 60-1 doesn't sound like a lawnmower/fart cannon. It sounds a lot like my friend's 16g eclipse, except louder. Though I think the volume level is more from the different exhausts we're using (I have a Bullet muffler and he has a Magnaflow, both 3"). I think you should check for exhaust leaks. Did you retorque everything after a few days? Some nuts and bolts get loose after heat cycling.

One thing I'm curious about, does your turbo sound like a big semi truck turbo when it's spooling (kind of a whistling noise to it)? Mine did when I first installed it, but it sounds more "normal" now.

yes, i will be upgrading to a full 3in very soon when i get some extra cash. I have not retorqued anything yet probably cause i just got the car runnin with the 60-1 just 2 days ago but i will look in to that for sure though. Yes there is a strange whistle noise to it but it sounds like a leak to me. So have a leak makes ur car sound really loud like a lawn mower even at idle?
