How do you turn boost down?

I have a eclipse gst with a jdm motor 14b turbo, i just bought the car, and the kid had it up at 22psi.. and the waste gate wasnt plugged in.. i plugged the wastegate in and its still 22psi how do i turn the boost down? i bought and installed a boost controller


how do you turn it down? with the wastegate?

Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Is it reading 22psi? You should be fuel cutting. The waste gate might be rigged shut. Is the vacuum line running to the waste gate actuator?

yeah i have an aftermarket boost guage... yeah and the fuel does cut out.. it seems like there isnt anything coming off the waste gate besides one metal rod. that goes to the manifold side of turbo is this normal?

yeah its normal.. get a pry bar and see if the wastagte can be pulled open f it opens that way make sure theres vac line on the wastgate also. make sure the vac line to the wastegate dont have a hole in it

this may be a dumb question but the vacuum line should be on the waste gate right?!? because there sint any vacuum line coming off the waste gate.. there isnt anything besides the rod

yah your missing the vac line running off your boost source to the wastegate

Hook the mbc back to the wastegate correctly, and adjust the know till you get the desired boost level. You might have to do a few pulls to get it right.

usually theres something on the top right? where there should be a hose?! there isnt anything its just flat theres only one rod thats comes off that is a rod to the bottom of the intake manifold

hahaha i was just reading that! thank you very much!! ill try to see if everything is hooked up right tomorrow! will the MBC turn the boost down?! Boost controllers are all different

Did you buy the mbc new? Some of them come on safe level boost. If you install and turn the controller correctly it should turn the boost down.

I just got a 95 gst with low miles runs good but gets hot due to the boost being up to high can any one tell me how to turn the boost down, the car doesn't have any serious mods besides forged pistons a bov and a front mount intercooler plus exhaust, the turbo is stock and rebuilt

Have you checked to make sure your WG is functioning properly?

Run a vac line straight to the wg actuator if it still boosts high your actuator is bad or has an issue.

Did you even read through this thread before posting in it?? 4 year old thread and you asked almost the same question the OP did, which was answered numerous times and now twice again for the first two things to check.

1, is the wastegate functioning properly as starfawkes said and
2, run a direct boost source to the wastegate as MJ said. Those two things dont fix your issue THEN come back.

Don't worry too much about how old the thread is. I have to give you credit for actually searching for a thread instead of creating a new one. Most members don't know how to search or they don't want to take the time. Just start troubleshooting based on the replies already in here, and report back on what you find or if it fixes your problem.

I agree with Starfawkes, some people want the answers handed to them when Google fails to. If you need a vacuum diagram let me know. I was going through the same thing.

Im a newbie 100% im very new to the import world so what ever I learn on here is greatly appreciated, the car is solid left it running for an hour and never went past normal operating temp, how do I check if the waste gate is bad ? All ive had in the past is muatangs and camaros now their fun dont get me wrong but cost to much in gas to play around in, a buddy of mine has a gst and when I went for my first drive in it and watched him smoke a vett I was hooked
