how do you tell if it is a 6 bolt or 7 bolt

not sure by the vin, but im pretty sure almost all 92s were 6-bolt at least the first half of the model year. But definitely by the number of bolts on the crankshaft flywheel side which you would have to take your tranny and clutch out.

the oil pans are different, you can tell by getting under that car and looking up. i believe vfaq has the two pictures so you can compare
 
No. Not all 92's were 6 bolts. This has been covered a thousand times. Please search next time. If your car was made after June 92, its more than likely a 7 bolt. Also, if you compare the 6 bolt oil pan to a 7 bolt, there is a dent inward on the oil pan on the timing side.

Dont get it mixed up,if it was made after june of 92 that would make it a 93 and not a 92
