how do you take out a valve fast and easy ...

just wondering if theres a fast easy way of taking out the valve i was told you could wit a socket on the top and tap it with a hammer but what size socket and how hard should i hit it i dont want to mes it up thanks for the help

What are you trying to take the valve out for? When you are replacing valve stem seals or something of that nature, when you have tension on the spring you tap the valve with a hammer. If you're trying to remove a valve with the head on the car, then no, there is no simple way beyond removing the head from the car...

head is off im taking out the valve to put in another head how do i put tenshon on the spring ?
any way of doing it wiht out speachel tools ?

Not really. Those springs have a lot of tension in them and you don't want something slipping off and that thing hitting you in the face or something. Other than that you just use the tool to compress the springs, pull the keeper from the retainer, then you can take the tool off, remove the retainer and spring and the valve will pull out the bottom. Should take only a couple minutes if you have the special tool. If not I'm sure any dealership around has one and if you took them the head they could do it for next to nothing because of the simplicity of the job.

No, you will need a valve spring compressor. If you look on VFAQ, there are some pictures of what you will have to do to a normal valve spring compressor to get it to work with our cars. All that is meant by using a hammer, is after you have the spring compressed you can tap the top of the valve with a hammer which will dislodge the valve hats.

This is how I,ve done it more than several hundred times not b/c Im lazy or don't have the tools. when Im taking an engine apart is verry easy but then agian if you're not sure or don't have the ability or confidence DON'T DO IT!!! Get a 3/4 inch long socket with a 1/2 inch drive, put it on top of the spring and make sure it covers the hole retainer and that it fits around the hole retainer not over, use the adequate saftey tools and hit the socket with a hammer, be careful as the keeper may jump out of the head, it has happend to me but never has hit my face!!! it may take several hits but the keeper will come out, you WILL need to compress the spring with the special tool wich is not hard to find you can rent it at your local autozone, so unless you have that tool I suggest you don't do it. But from personal experience I've done it tons of times with no problems! Good luck!

I've done this tons of times and I've never craked or damged anything, for more than 5 yrs I've been doing this and I've never had any problems, Im just stating my personal opinion I never said DO IT! matter of fact I said dont do it.

wonder if the rules got you banded? im sorry about the spelling im normaly tierd and just got off work. on top of that i suck at spelling so thanks for the info guys. i need to get this car done so i can get to work on my awd. im hoping for 450awhp im also just going to buy the tool i might need it later down the road
