How do ID a shep tranny

So i found a Shep tranny on a local listing for sale.
The seller claims its a shep dog box tranny with about 800miles . How can i tell if it really is ? My tranny is on the way out.

Being a dogbox trans, How much is he asking for it? That would be one indication of being legit or not. But there should be a 4 digit invoice number stamped on the trans. Get that number and call Shep to authenticate it.

If it's in good shape should be about at minimum 5x that price.

You shouldnt even be looking at a dog box if this is a DD or a street car. Dog box trannies are for people running sub 9 secs times and are used only for race cars and drag cars. So i would just leave it alone. I can bet its not a dogbox. That has value over 3500 easily!

Also, tell him you want to see the original invoice. If he says he doesn't have it, then tell him to e-mail Shep and request a copy. That's what I did when I sold my Shep tranny a few years ago.

Also, I agree. Nobody sells straight-cut gear trannys for $800. The gearset alone it worth 4X that amount. Doesn't sound legit at all.

Maybe he's just hurting for money, here in Texas some people are just damn near giving away Trans, T-cases. But a lot here are just getting out of the dsm scene too. It's ok though, more parts for me!

That very well may be true. That's why I'd ask for an original receipt.

For a dogbox, $2000 would be giving it away. $800 sounds more like a scam.

Well this guy is getting out of the DSM scene all together and has a ton of stuff up for grabs. Thanks for the info. And my car isn't a DD anymore ,well actually it never was but i bought a new diesel truck and don't wanna pay insurance on 3 cars so She's going on a trailer and a diet.
