How do I test the power transistor?

I am still researching my misfire issue so I can smog :mad:

To date (3 weeks that I have owned the car) I have done the following:
Changed plugs and wires (bosch plat and bosch wires), I have tried 2 sets of bosch plugs and gapped both sets.
I have had my caps in my ecu done by Steve(1 cap was defective).
Today I checked resistance on my bosch wires(1k, 8k, 11, 13k) :rolleyes:
I checked the resistance on my coils they both were at 13.3k. I found another post saying spec should be 10k-14.7k.
I bought a set of ngk plugs(bpr6es) and a pair of the accel thundersport wires. I gapped the plugs and tested resistance of the wires. The new ones are 200-300 ohms OMG Installed them and still have misfire.

I picked up a fuel filter today. I will change it tomorrow.

If the fuel filter does not fix it, I don't have much faith it will, I need to test the power transistor. Where is it located and how do I test it. I have found some post saying that 1.5 volts should be applied, but not complete directions.

Before someone says buy a manual, I cannot find a haynes for this car at any of my local autoparts stores. I think I will order the helms manual for it.
 
Also today I noticed that the misfire does not seem to happen while the engine is cold. I will test this theory tomorrow when the engine is cold again. Could this be caused by o2 sensor?
 
Even though you said you tried bosch plats, I was happy to see that you then went with NGK's, stay with them, they should be gapped to .28 to .30. It wouldn't hurt to try the BRP7ES's either. (one step colder) But it shouldn't matter. Any, the power transistor is right behind the feul rail and has a thin long plug (black) connected into it, reminds me of a printer port, but with only one row of wires. All it is is just a small block box that is bolted down to the intake manifold with a bracket. I am not sure how to test it, but when I had thought mine was shot, I just connected another one that I had to it. That's the easy way, if you don't have access to another one or from abother dsm'er, then hopelfully someone else knows what pins to test... Hope that helps. :)
 
If you are close to stock levels stay with the 6's. The 7's will just make the situation worse if anything right now.

I agree with midnght, They will if you are close to stock power levels, I just didn't know what your mods are so I just threw that in there just in case, hense the second part to your response midnght :thumb:

What is there is what I have. My car is bone stock with a dying 14b OMG

I found some more stuff at the end that I did not pay attention to before though. Tranny type, turbo and gas type :D
 
FYI I've tested power transistors per the shop manual that tested 100% fine, but still didnt work!
 
The saga continues. I replaced my fuel filter today. I checked my vacuum hoses.

The power transistor is next.

On a side note, I fixed my foglight switch today :D At least something went right.
 
I forgot to add something here. I noticed my cas was adjusted as far counterclockwise as it would go. When I tried moving it clockwise, the engine seemed to speed up(like timing was being increased) and misfire got much worse. I posted a message asking which direction was advance since I thought I was fully retarded, but no replies :(

When I sit down and drew out the direction of the cams on paper that is what I came up with. So I got one thing right at least.

I have decided to go to visit my mechanic this weekend. I figure we can check cam/crank timing, and ignition timing. If everything checks out I will replace the power transistor and possibly the coils.

I am sure my mechanic will be surprised since I normally do the "light" stuff myself. But I don't feel like buying a timing light :)
