How do I tell if a used turbo is good to go?

First of all let me start by saying this is NOT a turbo im thinking about buying but a turbo I already own. It came with the GSX I bought last week. Its a big 16G..Im wanting to replace my 14B with it but I dont know how to check to make sure that the turbo is in good operating condition. I have spun the blades and they spin freely, it does have a little shaft play but I dont know whats normal, acceptable, or how to gauge it and find out. I also dont know how to check any of the seals or what else I need to check. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys...Joe

Not sure how to tell, but I would rebuild it just for peace of mind

Check for shaft play. A little side to side play is fine for a 16g. But there should be ZERO in and out play.

Is it hard to rebuild a turbo? I have built engines so I assume I can do it. Or should I just send it off and have it checked over and gone through. Where would be a good place to send it to? Also where can I find a rebuild kit or parts for it? Thanks guys

check for chipped blades in and out play is bad side to side up and down as long as it isn't major movement it should be fine

well first i would check for any play on the shaft, most turbos will have some. check the blades, but if you want to be sure is good just rebuild it. i jusy rebuilt my big 16g i paid 150 bucks for the kit, and its pretty easy to do. it comes with instruccions. and this is very important check your EXHAUST side housing on the turbo, mine had a crack in it and wouldn't hold boost.
