Hey the title speaks for itself. I picked up a set of used cams from someone here on tuners and there is a speckling of rust on them just from sitting around. How can I remove the rust without hurting the cams.I tried to wipe it off and it not removing all of it. Can I micropolish them? Do I use like 2000 grit paper or what? And dont flame me for not searching. Everytime I search I get a message that says the word is to small. I typed in How to remove rust from cams and it tells me the word cams is to small WTF. Thanks for the help. Travis

Try using 1000 or 1500 wet sand paper and WD 40 for a lubricant insed of water. Use light pressure back and fourth. If its around a lobe you wound want to rap the paper around the lobe and sanding the whole lobe.
Cams are made of billet steel so they are very strong so dont wory about damaging it as long as your doing it by hand you will be more polishing the rust out more than affecting the cam profile.

Thanks for all the fast replies. It is appreciated. I figured it would be safe to use a really fine grit paper. Thanks TSIfreek and oldman420. I also thought you would have to be an idiot to ruin a cam due to its construction. I suppose you could if you attacked it with 60 grit paper OMG.

Instead of sand paper, use emery cloth. Use something like PB Blaster (a liquid wrench). Like OldMan420 said, EMery cloth is the correct stuff. not sand paper.

Ive also always used ScotchBright Pads. They wont scratch the softest of metals. They do a great job.
