How do I know If my oil pressure gauge is shot?

Last week with my new stroker 6-bolt, My oil light would come on only at idle(only when hot) , and I had almost no pressure at idle. However If my pressure gauge would go to halfway when reving over 3k rpm.

I decided to put my old 7-bolt engine back in with 2g pistons (due to lack of $)
anyways I'm having the same problem. I figure it's very rare to have the same problem with both engines(different oil pumps). But on the other hand I thought If the pressure gauge is shot it wouldn't read at all.

install a mechanical gauge....a really cheap one at Walmart is $6.

Or get an autometer for 50

or spend more if you want to.

Also get a copper tubing install kit, better then the nylon tubing normally used.

Do after market pressure gauges install the same way as the oem unit? Will it plug in the same? and can the stock dash guage be run from the aftermarket oil pressure sensor.
