How do I know if my GS is a GS-T

I just bought a 90' Eclipse GS 5spd and I noticed a lot MORE POWER compared to my 92' Eclipse GS automatic. My 92' Eclipse was slow like turtle and the 90' GS 5spd felt like it's faster than most of the cars on the road. I'm wondering if I just bought a GS-T because I looked under the hood and there was a thing above the engine with the lable "ECI Multi" on it. Just wondering if that is the turbo charger because just knowing that it's a GS does not tell me if it's GS-T...

A 2.0 DOHC valve cover wont fit on a 1.8 motor. You obviously have a 2.0 so that helps narrow it down a bit.

NON TURBO 2.0I want to walk you through this as best and simple as I can. I do not have photoshop, so I cant draw an arrow. Look on this photo. On the left side of the motor, there is a hose comming out the left side of the ECI Multi area (the intake manifold). See on the end of that hose there is a round, can like thing? That is the air box/can where your air filter is placed. ONLY non-Turbos have the air can on THAT hose, the upper one comming from the left side of the ECI Multi/Intake manifold

TURBO 2.0
NOW, I want you to look at this photo. Look at that same hose, the hose comming out of the left side of the intake manifold (ECI Multi). Notice how it DOES NOT have the air can attatched to it? Instead it goes down, underneath the car? Now look for the aircan now? See how it is attatched to a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT hose than the Non Turbo? The air can is attatched to that hose, then that hose is attatched to your turbo...

Just look for where the aircan is attatched. Its on the left side of the motor. Look at these two photos time and time again and compare where the aircan is. You will surely know the difference and is therefore the best and easiest way to determine if its N/T (non Turbo) or Turbo. Good luck.

In fact, in the last 10 of your posts that I've read, at least 5 were there to hate on people... Why? All of us start at exactly the same point when it comes to cars: ZERO KNOWLEDGE. Some of us have gained a lot since then, others not so much; either way, if you can't/ don't want to/ are too good to help out, then please leave out your "silly, assinine, stupid" answers.

Wiseman? Nay, wiseass is more appropriate

I have noticed the same thing for quite sometime now. Even picked up on a couple racist remarks he squeezed in.

Thanks Dieselboy for trying to help. The pics from the photoshop ones didn't show up. I think the aircan in the first pic was the one that was slanted with a yellow sticker on it right? It leads to the "ECI Multi" from a slanted hose? And in the pic with the turbo the aircan had kinda a pink exterior and a hose coming out of the right leading down. So all I have to look for is that aircan and see weather if it goes into the "ECI Multi" or down below the engine?

I did not notice a whistling sound at all, I guess I don't have turbo. If I don't have turbo then I don't, the car feels strong enough.

I will check under the hood again tomarrow, thanks for your advise Diesel :)

By the way... I think my 92' might just have a loose clutch. I've had done compression test on all the pistons before, i had 180 in all pistons. It's automatic so maybe there is something to do with the clutch control.

Your clutch has nothing to do with your compression in your pistons. Clutch assembly includes the disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing, flywheel, clutch fork, and your clutch/slave cylinderAll of which relate to the transmission. My advise to you would be to go to http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html and/or go to Schucks or Napa and buy a Chilton Manual and read up on how a car operates and whats involved.

BTW: You can have your clutch pedal adjusted. Your slave cylinder may be leaking or taking a dump on ya and you may need to replace. If not, you may be suffering from a slipping clutch and may need a new one.

In case you didn't notice he said his 92 was an automatic. He has no clutch in that car. Probably the reason his 90 feels faster is the tranny. Take a relatively soft torque converter and a transmission with taller gears to compensate for the lack of one and that car will feel like a boat. Put a 5 speed on the same engine with shorter gears and the ability to rev for a launch and that car will feel much faster. So more than likely the engine has nothing to do with it at all. The tranny makes it feel faster.

your right, asking never hurt anyone.. but to be on the level of ignorance that you odnt even know which car you drive.. i mean, its one thing if it was your parents, a hand me down, or if you got it for free, but to spend moeny on a vehicle, i woudl at least know if it had a turbo in it.. whats worse is that this guy drives. "well, i couldnt tell if that bigass bright red sign said stop... i didnt really PAY ATTENTION TO THAT MINOR DETAIL"
its that kind of #### im #####in about

You know what's funny is if you enter the VIN in www.carfax.com and just see the "free report" thing that tells you how many incidents they have, it'll say everything about the car (engine, model, etc). This isn't a newbie question, this is a lack of will to type www.carfax.com.

Thanks Diesel... I don't have turbo... your descriptions were very detailed... My 92' is automatic but I'm sure the slowness is not normal. I can just take it to a shop and get it checked it would have been easier.

I do know the car was a "GS" when I bought it. The 1g GS-T's don't say GS-T on the back. I asked the dealer if he know it had turbo he wasn't sure and told me no but I thought it was quite fast and I'm just wondering if it could be a GS-T.

And for the ones who have problem with this thread... All I did was post one question and I only check it once a night, I don't go outside to check the car "EVERY" single time I get a response. That would be really stupid... Don't even bother this thread if you don't intend to help. Consider yourself ignorant and mind your own buz...

The kid's probably excited because he thinks he may have gotten a turbo car... so what if he can't tell the difference. Maybe he doesn't exactly know what a turbo is. Cut the kid some slack... it was a simple honest question, probably one most of you would be too scared to ask so you'd go on not knowing just to save face. Give him some credit here, and if you don't want to answer the questions that come from newbies... WHY ARE YOU IN THE NEWBIE FORUMS??? my .02
