[RESOLVED] How do I know if I have a GS or a GSX?

I just recently purchased a Turbo Eclipse. I always thought it was GSX, but then I noticed that the GS also comes with turbo. How can I tell if my car is a GS or a GSX? Where it should say GSX, it is missing the X, but it has a little glue, as if the X fell off. So it actually says GS. Is there any way to tell for sure?

Get under the car and look for a rear diff. Its a thing thats shaped like a stop sign and will have 2 axles sticking out of it. GSX models are all wheel drive, while the GS is only front.

Thanks. Sorry, had forgotten to search for THAT specific question on the FAQ. I always swore I had a GSX... So i never questioned it. But now I realized its a GS-T. Thanks.

Checking for a rear diff is the ideal method.

Also, punching the gas in first gear you can tell if its Fwd or Awd.

The GS was a trim option package. Engine wise you could get anything from the 4G37 to the 4G63T the X in GSX ment AWD. That was from 90>94. The base car only came with the 4G37.

I know now it's as clear as mud.

eclipses wern't assigned the badge "Gs-t" until 1995. For the 90-94 eclipse, GS could be both a 2.0 NA model or a 2.0 turbo model. If you have a 1st gen turbo eclipse FWD, you have just a plain "GS". (oh and the awd models will say "All Wheel Drive" on the side) The badging on the back of your car just under the passenger side taillight should probably say something like GS DOHC TURBO or something similar. But like I said, the addition of the "T" wasnt until 95.

At least you figured out what it is, and now you won't tell others you have an AWD when they can clearly see that it isnt.

Take a picture of the engine bay. If you can't tell what model car you have you don't even deserve to have it.

It's an Eclipse GS, the turbocharged model. 1st gen dsm's never came in a "gs-t" model.

OK lets be done with this on the VIN the 4th through 9th # or letters are for .

GS 1.8 =CS44T
GS 2.0N/T =CS44R
GS 2.0T =CS54U
GSX =CT64U

That is for 90>92 for 93+94 they changed the engine codes

I don't need to be nice when people disregard the rules and are too lazy to search. Would have been easy to tell search and find out a GSX was AWD and GS-Turbo was FWD and then if you can't tell if your car is AWD or FWD from there then there is no amount of help that can help.

^^^Agreed, if you can't tell if your car is AWD or FWD you shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Just so you know, I have not driven my car. My father was the one who drove it, and its in the mechanic as we speak. This is why I was unsure, and wanted to know. Thanks anyway for all those who helped, and the ones who didnt. I guess we can close this thread now.
