how do i know if i have a blown turbo

my car baley idels smells like fuel and wen u hit the gas it dies any idea?

Ask it nicely if it is blown.

Then when you are done post us up some more information, what you have done so far and why exactly the smell of fuel, bad idle and stalling on throttle makes you think it is a turbo, because it is probably anything but.

Otherwise bring it to a shop, because if you can't provide us with better information than this, you aren't ready to work on a car.

2)No, a lot of other things would make it smoke though. Go ahead and do the standard boost leak and compression tests. Is your BOV recirculated?

Any Mechanical Technician who specializes in engines of any type would learn it in the first level of Auto Mechanics, "THEORY".. You have your symptoms..

diagnose and figure out the problem using what you say you know.


any car could die with a bad alternator and over time just quit. misfire... etc..

Ya know there's a ton of newbie forums on here that you could read on and learn quite a bit from. It would save you a lot of time waiting on answers your not going to get because you don'tknow what your talking about. 50 trim on stock fuel?! don't know if your BOV is recirculated!?!? c'mon!!

Being a little hard on the guy, eh? the guy just wants his car running. We all start somewhere.

Just check if your Bov is recirculated. You can find your Bov on your upper intercooler pipe right before the Intake manifold. It should have another smaller tube coming from the BOV to the air intake.

Whoever sold you the car and told you that it has a 50 trim is probably lying. Read around on the forums and you can learn alot. Check out the FAQ's section too.

Do the BLT treatment, take soapy water in a spray go over your hoses. and also unbolt the coupler to your turbo. Use two fingers move the compressor whel sid to side up and own, you use screw driver 'becareful". If there's movement, thats called shaft/blown and it would need rebuilt.


I notice this comes up evry so often, try become familiar with search. Its easy, just type words like Blown turbo or shaft play. Results will pages of great info. on this topis or anything you are wondering about.
