How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

I'm not sure. I'll try and figure out soon for you. Couple of my friends have autometer boost gauges. I'll ask one of them. I'm pretty sure one of them will let me, one of them cant even drive their car since he dont have plates for it. LOL

Ok cool, Sunpro guages are 30 bucks cheaper so it'd be nice to save that cash and put it into maintenance on my car.

LOL. Thats the only reason I bought it, because it was cheap. I was trying to save some money. Found this gauge for like 20-25 dollars, autometer was about 60. Only reason I bought this gauge was because I was pretty much broke and my car was missfiring. I thought it was fuel cut maybe so I bought the gauge to see what I was running, which was 14-15psi.

Just showing you my install with my boost gauge. It will also show where to tee it off also.
Tell me what you think.

Now that looks good - you are going to learn to hate those tinted gauges - you can not see them during the day!

Ok....for all of you that told this poor kid/guy that that looks good SHAME one you, you guys do not belong anywhere near a car.....that is quite possibly one of the worst excuses for a gauge install that i have ever seen.....seriously, he brought the hose in through the steering boot. Any one who thought this was ok Does NOT belong near a car. especially not one with a turbocharger! The best part of his install was Teeing off the line for the gauge. P.S. If you buy a real gauge pod, or make a nice piec to hold it and re-route your hose ill send you my old autometer cobalt boost gauge for free!!!!

"he brought the hose in through the steering boot"

Actually I have seen people do it like this. I've actually read that some people did it from this site. I don't know if it would be the best place to do it but it works. It don't seem like its hearting anything. I'm sorry that I dont have the money to buy a bezel or a pillar for a boost gauge right now because im going through some hard times at the moment and plus im broke. Yes I know I just hacked it and it looks cheap. Why? because I am broke right now! All this is just temperary until I can get some money and buy a vent bezel and a boost gauge.

Niddydsm-Thats a nice vent bezel. I'm really interested in one. Where would the best place to buy one from?

caseyk: Any news on guage comparison?

What's wrong with going through the steering boot? A lot of people do that.

Jezz, the dude did something to his car and we liked it. Sorry?

What happened, did no one complement you when you had an idea, so now you had to hate on this guy? WTF

There's absolutely no reason to be this big of a douche. We've ALL had to take shortcuts to save cash at one time or another. If you're going to be an ass to others then go hang out some place else.

Well put :) Constructive critisicm is the way to go, not condescending. I always like it when I come across someone who, although, thinks differently than I do, can suggest an alternative way of doing things without making me feel like shit for sharing.

OK im not being a douche or an ass and there is no problem with him saving some money, and sure, take shortcuts after all it is HIS car. My point is merely that TELLING HIM HE DID A GOOD JOB is NOT going to make him do a better job and he is going to think that what he did is the right way! I love my DSM's and personally I find it insulting that other DSMers are giving such bad advice....perhaps we should all be giving good advice on how to install things. I am truly sorry if some of you are offended by this. But we should be giving good proper advice, not reinforcing bad habits.

...and how did he install it wrong?

...and how did he install it wrong?

The hose through the steering boot is pretty hack, and the cutting of his radio dash kit was quite messy. I never said he installed it wrong.....just that it was not a "Great job" like everyone implied it was.

I personally have one large hole drilled and a grommet installed through the firewall for all of my gauges and such.

Some people don't want to drill another hole in their firewall for that. Each person has their own way of doing things. If you don't like it, please don't flame them. As someone said, constructive criticism is acceptable and a lot of the times requested.

While I agree with you that "people have their own ways" that boot was not put there to run wiring/tubing through. to each his own i guess.

caseyk: Any news on guage comparison?

Sorry, no comparison yet. Weathers been bad lately. One day its 60 degrees and sunny, next day its 40 degrees and thunderstorms, then the next day its 30 degrees and snowing.WTF I'll try this wednesday since it'll be the nicest day of the week here in Anderson, Indiana. All the rest will be cold and rain.

ya sorry man, but that does look horrible. it would look a lot cleaner if it were a different gage(w/o the chrome) and multiple ones so it doesnt look so lonely.

For the money and time spent it seems to be a pretty decent setup.

I would have no problem running anything through the steering column, have you ever tried to fish the vacuum line through the dash and up the pillar? It BLOWS.

Are sunpro guages any accurate compared to autometer?

We tried my Autometer boost gauge in his car and it was a little more accurate but not by much. He never drove the car with it in so we still really don't know for sure. Next time he goes cruising I'll let him borrow my boost gauge to see if there is a big difference or if they work the same.

ok so i have my boost gauge wires hooked up but i'm not 100% sure on where to put the vacuum line. i think i heard somewwhere to put the T connector in the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line but like i said...i'd like to know for sure. thanks for the help! :thumb:
