How do i get more HP out of my 1.8 motor?

I got my 94 eclipse a few weeks ago. I thought about doing an 2.0 swap but after finding this sight and reading about it i quickly changed my mind. Do yall have any ideas on how to make the 1.8 gain some significant HP without having to practiacally rebuild the engine. I got an aftermarket muffler welded on and regular maintenance done on it, but nothing major yet. I was thinkin about Injen intake but im not sure if it still incorporates that huge(air mass sensor) computer piece that is inside the intake box, and i dont want to take it off if i get the intake system and screw something up. Please help me come up with some ideas for more power.

I am pretty sure they do not make any performance modifications for the 1.8 liter non turbo 1g.

As for the intake, you use a big fat as_s k and n filter where the mass air flow sensor goes inside it, and you replace the rubber pipe witha larger solid one. You might wanna try ebay, becuase i dont know anywhere else to find 1.8 liter intake.

Dropping a 2.0 motor in it, would be next to worthless. dropping in the 2.0 turbo would be good, but Ive heard that its just easier to drop the whole motor/tranny/ecu/wiring harness. But then again ive also heard its easier to sell it, and buy the turbo. . If you go that rout, dont setlle for FWD. like me...mistake on my part. Later.

It's because you're just fighting too big a car with it. The 1.8 is for dependability and economy. If you don't have those goals, just drive it like the very nice car it is and start saving up for the faster versions the factory already made for you.

I agree with defiant, just drive it. If its a stick u have a semi-quick car, thats alot of fun to drive. I have a 1.8l myself, it goes, u can take on not vtec civics, cavi's, and neons with sum luck. Just do what i do, make it look like its fast, get some boom, if u aint got tha zoom, gotta have tha boom.

Seriously though, to answer his original question your options for horsepower are always based on craming as much air and fuel into the engine as you can. Thus you can:

A) Turbo it (this is a do-it yourself, not gonna be easy, and make sure you compensate for the air with fuel!

B) Supercharge it (You'll have nightmares for just thinking about how hard this would be!)

C) NOS it (The easiest of the bunch, but you'll never expect more than a 50hp shot at most, and even that will slowly kill the engine...

The second easiest is to sell it high, and buy a turbo low!

if you want a performance DSM you got the wrong one. Your best bet would sell it and get a GST/GSX or TSi/TSi AWD
