How difficult to add A/C after it's been removed by a previous owner?

Looking at a 1991 TSi AWD that has had the A/C removed in the past - and I really want A/C. Anyone know how difficult it would be to reinstall? (assuming I could easily get the parts needed, maybe from a salvage yard?)

It depends on what was removed. Some people just remove the compressor and lines. If the under dash unit has been removed it will be more difficult. Either way, you'll need all new seals, a flush, and vacuum pulled in the system before you can have it charged.

So you've dug in there - how complicated is it? (The whole under-dash part specifically) I don't have a manual for these cars otherwise I'd look it up....
I have past mechanical experience, but have never messed with an a/c system aside from removing a compressor from the mount to do the timing belt on my 92 Toyota truck.

And donniekak - thank you - I checked with the seller and nothing is left of the A/C. Huge project then?

Edit: Huh, the beginning of this post was in response to AlexGsxCummins' post but it's gone now.
