how bad is this piston

my motor sucked some stuff up because i didnt make sure nothing was inside my intercooler i just bought.car was knocking bad,sounded like a rod knock but took off the heafd to make sure.well there was a washer or some peice of metal mangled sitting on top of the piston.i know this isnt exactly great but how bad is this for the piston? the pic makes it look alot deeper than it accually is.

Looks like just some visual scarring on the piston to me... I would be more concerned with the valve it went through or cylinder walls where the rings will be working.
It would be better to let someone look at it in person though.

I kept mine running into the 11s with more damage than that from a disintegrated spark plug.

The head of the piston looks ok but where it has hit on the outside edge might have closed up the ring land jamming the ring, best to pull it out to check if the ring ha s gone tight best to replace that one piston for it might be cracked in the land itself.

I agree with previous posts. Face damage, no problem. But what about collateral damage? Also, are you sure that it was just a left over washer? Those would be questions of more concern.

Well you would want to clean up thsoe scars on the piston face their if you plan to kept running it. Those will see the most heat as most edges do. Can lead to a nice hole in the piston. And definitly check the ring land as previously said. it's easy enough to pull the pan and get the rod and piston out of their to check everything out.

that was my project yesterday.didnt go to bad and brought the piston to a shop over here that builds race cars,they said i shouldnt have a problem and they even smoothed out those rough spots for me wicked cool guys over there..anyways got it running again last night,runs real good and pulls hard.it all started out like this...i had a nice leak in my I/C,so installed a new one but i was careless and didnt check to see if anything was inside of the new I/C,so i get everything installed take the car down the road and dies on me,start it back up and wont run and was making a bad knocking sound like a bent rod.well my motor sucked up a nice washer or something and it was sitting on top of the piston..at least it cleaned all the carbon off that piston hehe..thanks for the help guys.much appreciated.

well looks to me like somone broke their timeng belt replaced it an sold it. you said that it was knocking. it happend to a friend of mine replaced the belt ran ok turned up the boost blew up the no 3 piston so i would recomend replacing them
