How bad is this crack on my turbine housing?

Well, it's not all that uncommon as far as I can see. I bought a 90 GSX and the turbo looked similar to yours. I found the best way was to just put a new turbo on it and drive on. It for sure won't get any better on its own.

Watch out for lean conditions or overheating as this usually is the cause of this kind of thing.

Good Luck

Mine was cracked a bit more then that and I hit 16 lbs at about 5500, so yea it seems about right to me.

Thanks, I guess it's time for a new exhaust housing then.:sosad:

Is your WGA stuck open at all when closed? I imagine that pic was taken with the flapper intentionally opened right?

edit... ya oops after carefully looking at the pic, I noticed where the crack was, I'd say that would certainly slow spool down a good bit.

Look I know this is a little off topic, but your Post name made me laugh. Think about it hard.. LOL

However, you will be needing a new exhaust side, that crack will cause all sorts of boost problems.

Yeah I held it open to take the pic. With the actuator mounted that flapper is TIGHT

Lol, yeah I did that on purpose, I hoped it would make people want to look at my post. DSM'ing can be fun too right?:thumb:

I've already started searching for an exhaust side. Isn't there some rings or gaskets I might need? I seen a turbo rebuild kit for $80, but I'm cheap and there is no shaft play so a full kit is excessive.

Now that the purpose has been served and question answered, please edit it to something more descriptive to make future searches easier. ;)

well hoping to get a new housing for lets say...$30 . I'm really broke right now. If I don't get the housing then I'll probably put that turbo back on for now and save up to get a bolt-on that can spool quickly to 16-18 lbs, whichever turbo that is I haven't researched it yet.
