Helo there my name is Josh. i just started getting into the whole forum thing but i have been in the DSM world for about 2 years. ok so i bought a 1990 talon tsi awd with only 90,xxx original miles. for some reason when i bought it, it had the weak t25 turbo. well the turbo blew so we replaced it with a new 16g. after doing this swap i keep having problems with coolant lines blowing? the car doesnt overheat for this to happen, and the car doesnt smell like coolant until the lines burst. i have never seen/heard of anything like this. i am pretty positive that the head gasket is fine but who knows? will the blown turbo cause a blown head gasket? does anyone have any suggestions as to why my coolant lines keep blowing. oh btw the lines that have blown so far are the coolant feed line to the turbo, one of the heaterhoses, and the coolant line that runs to the oil filter housing. please let me know your ideas of why this is happening to me. thanks guys!!!

Whats the frequency in which they blow? Is it every 3-6 months?

Whats the brand of hoses your using to replace them?

Ussually extreme heat cycling is what affects hoses the most. It sounds like you could also benefit from taking the hard coolant lines that come from your turbo off and cleaning them.

Good luck.

Most liekly old hoses.. and since a t25 never came on a car as old as a 90, i stat to question the care taken of the car and what was strippped off of it for it to be sold.. probably just a case of old hoses...when one goes the rest follow shortly after.

If it's the hoses to the coolant lines to the turbo, well they blow a lot when they are rubber from the extreme heat.. You may have to get some SS braided lines made for the turbo if that's what's going on.

And yes, a blown head gasket can cause coolant lines to burst from the excess pressure leaking into the coolant syste. A simple leakdown or compression test should rule that out or not.

the hoses are the original. and it was blowing one hose a day. so i just stopped driving it until i could find the source of which was causing them to blow. thanks guys. any more info you can give would be greatly appreciated
