My tailight fuse keeps blowing out. Im on my 3rd in 2 days. I found out it only blows when I turn on my drivin lights. About 2 months ago one of the wires accidently got cut when I put new tailights in. I soldered it and wrapped it in electric tape. I just took the tape off and I see nothing phycially wrong with the wire. Im scared the short is deeper than I wanna get into

please help

Did you happen to install a new radio recently? The factory radios have a wire going to them to dim the display when the headlights are turned on. Some (alot) of people accidently hook that wire up to another radio wire. Headlights on...bam!

no there is an aftermarket radio put in, but it was before i got the car. The headlights work fine, its the tail lights that burn out and the only way i know is because my gauge needles and climate control lights go out.

Yep, the headlight and tail lights are on different circuits/fuses.

Did this problem start recently or has it been an ongoing one since the tail light repair? It could be a coincedence that the wire going to the radio just happen to be touching something now and blowing the fuse.

How long have you had the car?

Upon further review, I don't see any connection between the tail lights and the radio in the wiring diagrams.

So, has this been happening since the tail light install or just recently? What is the color of the wire that was cut? Green/White or Gray/Blue?

The radio and everything else is fine. The only way I know my tail lights went out when i drive is because my gauge lights go out. When I put the new tail lights in I accidently cut one of the wires (i think it was the green with white tracer) but I soldered it and put electric tape around it.

It used to blow fuses right away, so the problem was pretty easy to figure out. But now it blows them when i drive so i cant narrow it down like i did before. But like I said it only blows them when my driving lights are on so Im gonna check the wire a cut, if that not it, Im gonna have to rewire the harrnesses until I find the short...and i really dont wanna do that

wiring is a bi***,it could be as easy as a naked wired somewhere touching.

you absolutly right. I found out it was a frayed wire from some headlights i never hooked up, it was touching my fender and shorting the system out. I put electric tape on it and its fine (for now, knock on wood). thanks for all the help guys

just for future reference, what would be the best way to find a short thats buried and hard to find?
