If your replacing everything just line up everything else and don't worry about the oil pump sprocket, then when you put it back together you can turn the oil pump sprocket to the correct position. It may have been done incorrectly by the previous owner.

If you did the job right the oil pump sprocket doesn't line up every time. This is why it takes six turns to check timing. All give marks only line up every six full turns of the crank. I assume you have the balance shaft in phase also.

I did my first one last week and I got all of mine in time but it took me 3 times. Guess which one was always off..... Just recheck it. The phase of THAT balance shaft is slightly off too. Just something you need to know. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I didn't do the last timing belt job...it wasn't me.
Ive turn it 36 times ive aligned everything else 36 times everything else gets to timing mark except the oil pump sprocket, thats why im asking on what should I do because i dont know what to do next :/

Just re line up all the marks. spin it by hand till they all line up witch is 4-6 revolutions of the motor i don't remember exactly how many.

if it's not lining up your gonna have to release the tension on the belt and do it again,
if its just the oil pump sprocket not lining up, then line everything else up, release the tension, and spin the oil pump sprocket till it lines up on the mark, tighten the belt back up and spin the crank 6 times to make sure everything is still lining up

I'm not sure if you really turned it 36 times. If this was me I'd turn it till all the marks line up, then start turning & counting the 6 full turns and recheck the marks.

Since you are re doing everything it really doesn't matter at this point, just make sure you do it right when you replace everything. As long as the crank and cams are aligned before you take it apart it will be fine. If the oil pump sprocket was not correct from the previous timing belt job the balance shaft could have been out of phase and caused some vibration. Just make sure you set it all correctly when you put it back together and make sure that the oil pump sprocket is in phase and not just lined up with the mark.

Dont sweat man. Just remember to the remove the bolt behind the block and stick your screw driver in there all the way to know that the oil pump is timed correctly while the mark still lines up at the pulley/timing cover.

There seems to be a bit of some confusion about my situation with my oil pump sprocket not coming up to timing marks with the rest them. First id like to thank everyone for there inputs, help and ideas.
So here where I am at.

I'm not sure if you really turned it 36 times. If this was me I'd turn it till all the marks line up, then start turning & counting the 6 full turns and recheck the marks.

On Timing Belt VFAQ im on 8# where I have to align cams, oil sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and BS sprockets. I did get everything aligned all except the oil pump.

The original timing belts are still installed from he last owner that had them installed. The ones I want to replace. I have not installed the new ones yet.
So after reading everything I got a few times, im pretty sure ive turned everything more then 6 full revolutions (clockwise). Ive made more then 30 complete cycles...I still cant properly align the oil pump sprocket.

*****This is where i am stuck.***** because I dont know what to do next.

If your replacing everything just line up everything else and don't worry about the oil pump sprocket, then when you put it back together you can turn the oil pump sprocket to the correct position. It may have been done incorrectly by the previous owner.

I really like this idea...of course if doesn't damage the oil pump components.

No everything is at timing mark it does look slightly off due to the angle how i toke the picture...sorry but on Timing Belt VFAQ #18 theres a gap at the edge of the front case at complete TDC

If you went more than 6 revolutions of the crank without seeing all the marks line up then the previous owner didn't set the timing correctly on the oil pump gear. That being said, I'm not sure what the effects would be (if any) from running the oil pump gear out of time? Maybe someone else can chime in on that subject. If I were you I would just pull everything apart and complete the timing job according to the VFAQ.

Turning the oil pump gear will not damage the pump. Just remember to do the screw driver step I posted above. If anything the car might run better since the pump will be timed correctly.

Not only the pump, which I don't think cares where it is really, but the balance shaft BEHIND the oil pump would not be in phase if it wasn't timed correctly. Not sure how much harmonics this would create if any noticeable, but thats why the mark is there.

Like what someone else said. I understand you want everything to line up to remove but since the last owner didn't set the oil pump correctly, remove everything and install it all correctly.

If it wasn't lines up properly when done last time by whoever did it then you can spin it for the next week non stop and it still won't line up. Line up everything else as good as you can then remove tension replace new components via Vfaq and make sure its done right.
