Hey guys. 2g talon AWD. Back at it so soon with another question. Whos running 2g exhaust and O2 dump out the hood?
my car is lowered slightly, the current exhaust drags the ground with a passenger in the car over small bumps even with my suspension super stiff. I tried better exhaust hangers and even welding solid hangers and when the body drops the exhaust scrapes. Previous owner has the o2 dump out the hood. im going to run my exhaust out the hood right next to that since the hood already has one hole in it. (rather than bumper exit.) Im looking to see who else is running the exhaust out the hood so I have an idea of how I want it to look when finished.

Pros and cons? Water intrusion isn't a big concern, ive researched enough to keep it covered during really rainy days. Car is a pretty strict 400awhp street car. Might be driven to work every now and then but not a daily by any means. As far as noise how bad is it? any worse than a full straight pipe exhaust? any performance gains? Again pictures please! need ideas! Thanks all!

    Jake.

I'd personally just do the bumper-exit and get a new hood. I rarely see hood exits done well (i.e. no gaps/flush with the hood).

I'd be interested to see a top-fender-exit exhaust. Been interested in this idea but haven't had the balls to do it.

Like he said, they're rarely done good. But IF you can pull it off I say go for it. I've seen some cars get a bit of a "stain" on the windshield and roof, but thats about it. I don't think they're any louder than a bumper exit either.

Its going to be LOUD and what happens when your out somewhere and it starts pouring rain? just not a good idea at all, leave hood exits to pulling tractors, bull dozers and farm equipment where they belong.

I don't think I have ever seen a hood exit on a dsm that looked well done. I've only ever seen like 2, but both that I remember were not impressive at all.

It just makes more sense to route it out the bumper in most cases. It's shorter and straighter and won't tint your windshield black with soot if you run rich, or paint it black with oil if the turbo blows. That last one would really suck if you were in traffic with a full head of steam.

It would really only make sense if you were using a top mount tubular manifold, or a reverse rotation turbo or couldn't go out the bumper because of an oil cooler core or something else in the way.

Hope these are good enough. Sorry, only ones I have being that I blew the transmission up. Going auto to fix that though.

Also, I run E85 so it burns clean. Nothing on the windshield, etc. Felt my bumper exit I ran was louder (sound bouncing off other cars, etc). I'm currently running stock hood so it was VERY nerve racking not to mess it up. I actually had cut my pipe too short and had to add some metal back to it. I've since taken the heat wrap off the pipe and painted it black, inside and out and looks much better. It's garage kept so no biggie about rain.

Thanks for the input guys. @v8s_are_slow I read your post on your hood exit, yours is part of my motivation. yours looks good imo. Im also running E85 so not too worried, as well as a recently rebuilt turbo, oil seals shouldn't be an issue, but if ive got blowby somewhere at least itll be noticed when it first on the windshield. I agree @delta448 I haven't seen too many clean hood exits. I know its gonna take some long hours in fab work, a good buddy of mine welds for a living and finally got a welder at his house and has been looking for some welding work. Figured this would be a good project since the hood is already hacked anyway. My goal is to make it fairly clean which I don't think will be that bad but we'll see
