Honk! What? Honk! What? I can't hear you, that must be a DSM horn [Merged 1-8]

a train horn would be awesome.
but that is way more than i would ever spend for something like that.
:)

God that video makes me happy. My old mustang never had a horn so i just revved up the flowmaster v8 :D

Test the horn. Ground it and touch the positive wire to something that's on (NOT THE BATTERY) and if it goes beep it works and the button is the problem

I replaced the pathetically weak and ineffective (sort of like the United Nations) OEM horns with a hi-low from a 2006 Ford F-150 Truck. Got the horns at the dealer for about $70 and the 2-prong plug for it at a boneyard from a late model Taurus.

I mounted it in the stock location but had to disassemble and slightly modify the "V" bracket that the two Ford horns are mounted to. Spliced the plug into the existing wiring and it was done.

Also did the 2G horn fix as per the link above.

Now the horn is nice and loud and works every time.

I've got the horns in the location you do, but I'm also pretty sure I saw another one behind my battery mounted to the firewall.

Ok my inspection is coming up in the next few days and I just noticed last week that the horn doesnt work. go figure. Anyways i did some searching and I just want to clear some things up before i go tossing money around. When i press the horn buttons on the steering wheel I can hear the under hood relay click. Great. Also, the fuses are still good. Awesome. Now here is what i dont get. I cant find the horn! I looked at the electrical diagrams in the service manual and it shows the horn connector clips as two pin connectors, one on each side of the car. In fact they are wired in on the same harness for the fog lamps. So..I tried to find the wires and I did. Both unhooked...NO HORN! I guess the previous owner must have removed it for fitment of new intercooler piping? But here is what I do not get. I put a 12v led in each of the horn connector clips and had a friend push the horn button on the steering wheel. The relay still clicked but neither led lit up meaning I have no power to those clips. Or am i missing something.

Thanks in advance guys
-Bill

Could be bad wireing. Try a test light or whatever, a little further up the line.

Also try tracing the wires if you can. It wouldn't hurt to start your test at the relay. A clicking relay could in fact be bad if it isn't working 100%. This usually isn't the case but you never know. In the mean time, order a horn.

Probably through the fuse first. Id take a look at the relay. The fact that you can hear the clicking just means that the coil is being engergized, thats not where the power for your horn comes from. There should be another power source to feed the horn, possibly with a different fuse.

ok so as my thread states my horns dont work. however when i push the keyless entry horn button they work. now i have checked fuses is there any thing else that i can look into to try and diagnose this problem? i am at a loss as to this problem someone help please:pray:

Your problem is going to be between the horn switch in the steering wheel and the wire line to the horn . Your horn has the hot lead already ran to it. You operate it by closing the circuit and giving it a ground to complete the circuit. If you try and dig into the steering wheel, be careful not to disconnect any of the airbag wiring.

Hey op if I can have your key fob I'll tell you how to fix your problem. jk. Anyway our 2g's have 2
horns, 1 is under the p/s reservoir and the other is on the fire wall. The one on the firewall sounds when the "alarm" is activated or armed.
You can either try to find and fix whatever the problem is or just rewire your horn to a remote mounted button. Hope that helps

Or you could just do what my friend does. He rolls down his window and blows his vuvuzela. ROFL

for real? how much that cost ya if you dont mind me askin? were you bein sarcastic? ferrari horn? wow, i cant even imagine what it would sound like. you-tube search ferrari horn? LOL

man, people have been digging up some OLD threads lately, i keep thinking "wow, defiant is finally back!" then i see the thread is from 2004 B.C. and realize he;s still MIA. LOL

Recently hooked up the alarm siren to the horn. Not sure if its legal, but it sure is fun!

Not exactly a horn, but..

Has anyone ever hooked up a pair of those back up alarms you hear on big trucks?

Some of of those on a DSM would kill for backing up.
