The point of this thread is for members that are restricted to this forum to post questions regarding Holset turbos. This will help concentrate info in the newbie section and make it more readily accessible for others down the road. (fewer threads to dig through for info.)

Once you've hit your required minimum to post in other forums, we'd recommend moving to the primary Holset threads for further discussion.

thats one option im considering, others include looking into getting a KKK hotside and getting it to fit the holset. It would be of a smaller AR

is there a T3 option on the HX35 turbo?

so on that i can choose Holset HX40 and then: without wastegate?

OR is this another 0.55??

Tim's Turbos - Turbo Rebuilding - Stainless Steel Turbine Housing -4/5 bolt pattern

i contacted Tim and he said that there is no smaller than .70AR housing other than the mitshubishi one,but i did not understand whether the " no wastegate" stands for external wastegate use or the option to fit a custom wastegate on your own.

since i already use an external wastegate, does that mean that the turbine housing will come with an extra hole in it? or will that be completely blocked?

on that link it says that the housing is compatible with 4 or 5 bolt configuration. It does not mention if it is .55AR

if it is, then i will get that and make a 4 bolt configuration on the downpipe to bolt it on

Bullseye Power no longer pours th cast fora .55 a/r with a t3 inlet bolt pattern. If they did, you still would have to fabricate the outlt connection as it would have the mitsubishi flange on that end.

Yes the .70 a/r hx40 is a BIG turbo. The smaller .55 a/r has done 690whp, so You an imagine what substantially larger hotside can do to completely max out the 68lb/min hx40 compressor.

i understand that, but im not building a drag car. If i can get a decent 550hp from that turbo that would be ideal for me,so that smaller hotside should be the one that works.

what about that link above of the stainless steel hotside?

Before i remove the holset for good, for a garrett unit(smaller) i want to have a chance to make it spool faster.

i read in one of the other forums that a garrett journal bearing housing can be machined to provide room for the turbine wheel of the holset and therefore if the AR is smaller, it can spool faster

looking into the journal bearing turbine housings, can someone tell me if this is what im after??

Got the new motor up and running with HX55, exhust side is big on purpose 80mm turbine wheel #23 housing to prevent plugging at high rpms.
Tested the new turbo set-up first by bolting it to last years engine which had milder cams (276/10.4) and a different head. New motor is with 292/11.2 cams and here are spool curve from both

as expected cams did move the registry uppwards by 250rpm or so.

few 100-200km/h in 3rd with baseboost (0.85bar) and with babyboost (1.55bar). Timing and fueling far from "optimal".

Planned registry for this engine is 6000-9300 and so far so good.
Preli dyno is booked for next week, aim more on seeing how the motor reacts to boost/ing/afr rather than trying to get "all out"

Thought I'd bring this to the top for the newer members. Not sure if they are aware of the thread.

The 60mm inducer (minor diameter) 7blade is a revision to the 60mm 6blade. As far as we know, Holset never even released a new compressor map for the revision. So the flow is likely identical and it's very possible Justin is right about it bridging the gap. The most recent hx40 high flow maps trace out the same as the older maps when holset had the 6blade 60mm as the high flowing option for the hx4* frame.

Beware!!!!! There is also a 6blade 56mm hx40, that can be had in billet as well. Obviously it will flow less than the larger 6blade or 7blade. Debatably in the 60lb/min range, around where the 8blade 58mm standard hx40 compressor flows.

8blade 58mm = 62lb/min
7 or 6blade 60mm = 68lb/min
6blade 56mm = 58-60lb/min (?)

I see that you have the 56/86 6-blade HX40 listed between 58-60lb/min. Considering that the 54/78 7-blade HX35 flows 60 lb/min couldn't it be assumed that it flows somewhere above 60 lb/min similar to thh 8-blade?

Second thing I wanted to ask is which turbo setup would make 500WHP pump gas below 30 psi and or which one would make the most power. HX35 7-blade with .70 twin scroll garret, or an HX40 6-blade 56/86 with a .70 AR twin scroll turbo? The .70AR twinscroll from what I have seen is approximately equivalent to the 14cm sized housing...so if the HX35 can flow 60 lb/min in a 12CM housing then i am sure the hX40 can flow 60-65 lb/min in the same housing considering the larger turbine wheel? thoughts? Also from the dynos and the info that i have seen the extremely large exducer vs the inducer size of the 56/86 6-blade seem to flow exceptionally well in lower boost levels ie pump gas levels. So would it be safe to assume that the 56/86 is the best pump gas compressor wheel? If you put in a .70 Twinscroll housing should spool around 3900-4000 ish? thanks for your thoughts.

You might try sending dsmonster a pm and ask him if he could respond to your question here.

Hi, I have 2 hx35s :
hx35 8 blade with 14cm twin scroll t3 housing
hx35 7 blade with 12 cm twin scroll t3 housing

I have read that the 7 blade flow 60lb/min compared to 52lb/min for the 8 blade but only at higher boost level, and at lower boost level the 8 blade will flow more. My question is at what boost level does the crossover between them happen, where the 7 blade starts to outflow the 8 blade? Does it means that below that boost level the 8 blade will make more hp and tq but above that boost level the 7 blade will make more hp and tq?

On the turbine housing, can the 12cm housing support the 60 lb/min 7 blade, or will it choke?
Is the 12 cm housing better match with the 8 blade and the 14 cm housing with the 7 blade?

Thanks,

Rian

Hello Holset gurus (JusMX141, dsm-onster, Morphius, etc), can you tell me the part numbers for hx40's t3 and t4 divided non wastegated turbine housing and its a/r, my local holset distributor can get me one but need the exact part number.

I have found that part number 4035879 is for 60mm/86mm 7 blade compressor wheel by asking what part number of compressor wheel from hx40 super part number 4027888 and 4034150. While the turbine wheel part number is 3596226.

I have a regular hx35 which I plan to convert to hx40 super but non wastegated by installing the hx40 super compressor wheel and turbine wheel, machining the compressor housing, and backplate for compressor wheel to sit, and buying the non wastegated turbine housing.

Sorry cant post in the holset part numbers thread yet. Thanks for any help.
