Hollowing my cat?

Currently my car is misfiring and I was woundering if it was the cat. Before i go and buy a new one i wanted to test to see if this one is bad, but I heard this can screw up my car because of the downstream o2 sensor. Should I disconect the downstream sensor? If not what am I supposed to do to avoid possibly damaging my car?

I forgot to mention by test I mean hollow out.

You can buy a test pipe that will bolt right in place of your cat for 20 bucks so don't hollow it out. A for the o2 you can use a non fouler to pull the sensor out of the exhaust stream and fool it to think the cat is still there

You can scrap the cat for the money for a pipe to be made. However I would save a cat before hollowing it out.
