hello, I was wondering if any of you guys has installed a HKS exhaust on a 420a? im about to change mine because it sounds like a trumpet, but haven't been able to find any information on it, id really appreciate it if someone could attach a video of how it sounds on a 420a, thank you

The AWD catback systems will not interchange with the FWD models. I say this because in today's world I've only seen HKS made for the GSX. I'm sure an HKS system would sound great on these cars but you can't buy them now.

I used a 3 inch gst exhaust from front to back and instead of going above the rear subframe I just cut the exhaust and made it go under. I also had to cut and flip the downpipe but I'm running a turbo so your setup may be a little different. I personally wouldn't buy a real expensive awd exhaust if your gonna chop it all up anyways but that's just me.

I will be adding a turbo in a couple months, but i just hate the way that the car sounds, it sounds like every honda since the previous owner straight piped it :barf: so yeah, any exhaust suggestions will be appreciated

whats your opinion on the apexi n1

Well once you add the turbo throw any exhaust on because that honda sound will be gone. I straight piped mine all the way to the back with a generic "fart" can type muffler and it doesn't sound bad at all. The turbo definitely quiets it up a bit. The only reason I don't buy any name brand exhaust is because I switch mine up way to much and I cut alot of it up too. Someone who has run the higher end stuff will have to let you know how it sounds, but if your going turbo anyways that right there makes the honda sound go away.

what set up are you running? ive always wanted to turbo mine but im doing maintenance first, but i want to get an idea

I probably wouldn't buy something meant for the AWD. You spend all that money, then spend even more money cutting it up and re-welding it just to make it fit. At that point you could almost buy your muffler of choice and have the rest of the system plumbed. I know there aren't many options for exhaust systems today. My opinion on the Yonaka remains. The stock pipes are 2.25" so there is already an upgrade. If you're aiming for big power, the 3" would come in to play. But you'd need to tear the engine down first before worrying about that extra half inch exhaust diameter.

here it is i was thinking about that HKS because a friend of mine has a TSI AWD and he knows about dsms, he suggested that exhaust, but i just dont wanna sound like a honda no more :barf: , and i dont wanna rush that turbo intall

The only thing usable for you from that system is the muffler. None of the hangers are correct and the flange wouldn't even bolt to your convertor/test pipe. Just buy yourself an HKS muffler and weld it on if that's what you want. You gest the most performance benefits if the entire exhaust is the same diameter. You don't want to size it up and down repeatedly and have weird bends.

this one what do you think about it? will it help my honda ass sounding car? :barf:

My setup is 3 inch from front to back and it's not loud at all and it definitely does not sound like a honda. If you don't go turbo take any recommendations from BLACK'98DSM I beleive he is na and without a turbo you may want a quality exhaust.

also, how did you got your car to shoot flames? :hellyeah:
A combination of parts and proper tuning. I have it running a little on the rich side, for knock and temperature control. That along with straight through exhaust components. An accumulation of unburned fuel in the exhaust system, under pressure at a high temperature it will combust. Just a little afterburn you see. This wouldn't occur if I dialed back fuel delivery. Advancing the ignition timing any further would cause me some knock on pump gas. You should see how ridiculous it is when I heavily retard the ignition timing. It's a flamethrower. I didn't do that for very long, for fear of exploding my muffler or washing the cylinder walls.
damn it :banghead: where can I get like a real HKS then, no burnt tip :nono:
You can buy straight from their website, or you can use the site to collect the part number and search elsewhere. Just be careful of large price differences as those are probably knockoffs.

are you using MS? or how can i tune mine to do that too

Sorry I missed this. Yes, MS3 is what I run. I wasn't aiming for flames. I was aiming for power and reliability, the flames are a bi-product. Like I said before, if you want to "shoot flames" all you need is a non restrictive exhaust system a precise tune. It isn't something I would try to do on the stock ECU. You'll likely just damage the engine. I run a 12.5:1 AFR at WOT for knock prevention and cooler combustion chamber temperatures. That is fairly rich for a non boosted engine but has worked wonders during my tuning experience. I constantly wipe black soot from within the exhaust tip, caused by unburned fuel combustion within.
