Hey guys, im pretty well aquainted with DSM's, i've had my 96 FWD for a year and a half and now im building a 92 AWD. Im Shooting for 400whp or so, what would be some recommendations for cams??? Some people do 272's all around and others do 272/264.... I just want something streetable, i know cams wont really be necessary for my goal, but i just want some opinions.

i would also like to hear what u guys think about the 272's since i am planning on throwin some in my car...

I run hks 264 intake for a smooth idle and a 272 exhaust.....i overall pleased with this combo, and i have made some great numbers on them...727hp at 31 psi, with only 2 hrs of tune, and a shitty ass a/f gauge.....the car is my daily driver too

any combo will get you to 400whp honestly. I prefer the straight 272 combo myself. But you might want to look into some other things before you worry about cams...

Well thanks for the input, like i said, at least for right now, im getting the car up at running, once i hit 400whp, i might be looking into some cams, nothing real crazy, but something that should help top end out a bit. The only other question i have is, will my car pass emissions with cams, i wouldnt imagine it would, but since i have none, i guess i wouldnt know, anyone???

Where are you in PA.

As for the cams and emissions on the 95-99 I know in PA and MD they run the OBDII system so you would be fine then, as for getting sniffed I dont know.

That's true somewhat. But... if the cams cause the computer to throw a check engine light which mine do, you won't be able to pass OBDII, unless you clear the check engine light with a logger or dsmlink. I get cylinder misfire codes every once in a while with mine. :)

What!?!!?!? Is that a typo? 727hp!?!?! If so it is quite amazing.

why is it amazing?

its a big A/R turbo and a great setup( i'd be a tad worried about the rods, but not a real big deal).

it can be done easily... im looking at making 650+whp no spray.

Im from nanticoke in north eastern PA.....its 10 mins away from wilkes-barre
Luckily there is alot of shady ass garages around here that will inspect about anything for a 6-pack and a pack of smokes as a tip, LOL

And yes the car made 727hp so far, but its going to stay like that for a while unless I get the car fixed to get back on the dyno.....see my dampener from the crank pulley separated, made the accessory belts slide off and snap.......when doing so whacked the timing belt, making it jump........needless to say pistons whacked the valves. :barf:

With that being said.....and myself being broke...the car is still up for sale if anyone is interested at a very low price, check out www.redshiftmotorsports.com for more details and feel free to private message me with any questions or comments :thumb:

Most people list there WHP, not estimated crank Horsepower...this can be misleading.

552.3 whp to all 4 wheels......we got 727 from the reference drivetrain loss listed within the dynapack dyno.........but who knows what the exact loss is considering changes in tranny, flywheels, crank pulleys, clutch???....it just sounds nice LOL 727

I was going to say, damn  552 is a damn good number though. I'm shooting for at least 550whp when my motor is finished.

Have you looked into comp cams by the way? Last I heard, all HKS cams were still on backorder.

dude on 552 whp you are not going to see single digits time slips, sounds like you are missleading people.

with 552whp....no....but with a stiffer spring on the wasteate so i can boost past 31, and some more tuning with my new UEGO....im sure we will hit 650whp...and im pretty confident that will put the car into the 9's...if not I'll always have the bottle in the back seat to put me there :thumb:

550whp will not get you single digit slips... unless you have an AWD car that weighs under 2800 with you in it. a 3000lb car with the driver will need great driving and around 600+ whp to make an attempt at a single slip. and a 1.5 60' foot

Those big numbers and no track times to back them up? I would love to see that thing in the 1/4...

Yeh, I'd love to get to the track, but I don't have a cage, scatter shield, or blow down tube for the nitrous.....amongst all the many other saftey precautions that I would need to be able to run. The car is my only car, and the thought of picking a girl up for a date and having her try to squeeze into a roll cage is not a good idea..LOL.......i did pull off a 3.12sec 0-60mph time on a gtech though with street tires

G-tech doesn't really mean shit. I used a gtech on my car before and it said I had 223hp. I would hope I would have more power than that to run mid 12 second quarter mile times.
