I have a question about the hks cam gears because their a 3 bolt design and i heard that 3 bolt design's such as the AEM ones slip or skip timing? Is this true? Im going to be running HKS 272 for intake and exhaust and HKS valve springs. Also do you you think that would be all i would have to do to run the HKS 272's?

I would honestly stay away from the aftermarket cam gears. From the issues I've seen with other lightly/moderately modded DSMs running them it really seems like they hurt rather than help and that you can really lose a lot of power by tossing them on there and not knowing exactly what you're doing, especially with the intake cam. The stock cams don't get restrictive until highish power levels anyway. IDK how modded your car is, but IMHO cams/gears should be one of the last mods. I don't have any hardcore factual info or anything; I'm just sharing my experiences with you. Good luck man.

I think adjustable cam gears are a sound idea if you have aftermarket cams. Many people just drop them in and have great results, but that's not to say that they are degreed correctly and performing at 100% that way.

I have the HKS cam gears on my HKS cams. The exhaust is 272, while the intake is 264. They have probably about 30,000 miles on them with no slipping. They worked out just fine for me.

What issues?
How do they hurt?

For guys that have cams that don't install straight up, or for guys that have a head that's been re-surfaced several times, adjustable cam gears are almost mandatory. I have zero issues with mine. Same goes for everyone that I know that runs them...

I have had no problems with mine over the last 2+ years, and a heck of alot of abuse at the track. Never slipped. Just make sure that you tighten the adjustment bolts good, and no worries.

If you do end up getting them, dont just bolt them up and start adjusting them. The proper way is to get on a dyno and adjust them to the best gains you can.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. Keep them at 0 degrees until you are properly tuning on a dyno -- it is the safest way.
