hks 264 cams is slightly rusted

i have a friend selling used hks 264 cams its slightly rusted ,can i clean it is it ok to buy it .

were is the rust at on the lobes or the bearing surface, how bad is it. if its very light you can use a scotch bright pad to buff the surfaces.

If you able to post up some close up pics of the lobes it would be help full.

As stated use a scotch bright pad and some mineral spirits. It will come right off as long as its minor. I had a set that did the same thing.

its on the lobes nd the bearing area .i will post pics is it ok if i clean it up and use it cause i got a really cheap price on them any advice

I have had this experience before, I have used both mineral spirits and WD-40. Either of these with a scotch bright pad and some elbow grease should fix you right up. Once done look for pitting. If there is pitting and you are unsure or quesy about using them take them to a machine shop and ask for a proffesional opinion as if they are multiple and deep enough it could lead to valve train antics that you don't want. I would finish that up with some finer (gray) scotch briite. The coarse stuff will leave too rough of a finish.

As a general rule when it comes to polishing cams, you don't want to use anything coarser than 600 grit because otherwise you can inadvertently remove too much material.
