For a little while now, I've heard a slight hissing/light grinding noise. I thought it might be my brakes. Well, last night the noise seemed to be a little louder than usual and when I took a turn the noise was loud and I could almost feel it, like it was my brakes grabbing. Has anybody else had a problem with this? When I go to fix the problem, what should I look for with my brakes? Also, is it possible that this isn't coming from my brakes? Thanks.

Definitely check your brakes soon. If they wear down too much you'll start digging into your brake disc every time you step on the brake. The problem could be that your brakes are past the point when you should have changed them and they are beginning to dig into your disc if it feels like it's grabbing. Hopefully thats not the case though and it's just all in your head, and its only the wear indicator rubbing. Other possibilities could be wheel bearings or something caught in your brakes (I.E. a pebble, screw, etc).

Check to see if the noise stops or changes when you press on the brake pedal. Better yet, put your car on jackstands, take off your wheels, remove your calipers, and inspect the pads.

See this faint hissing noise that I've been hearing might just be all in my head because other people that ride with me say they can't even hear it. When I did turn that one time though and it was a very recognizable grinding noise, and I could almost feel it, I know something was up then. I did inspect the brakes and pads today and everything seemed to be in order, filled up the rear differential a little, because I checked it and it seemed low. Took the car out and didn't really hear anything. So I dunno what it was. Also, when I apply the brakes at any time, I get no weird noises. Anybody have any other suggested as to what it could've been?

Turbocharger? Boostleak? Does it only make the noise when the car is in motion, or when the engine is in high rpms?
