I was driving my car home today and I heard this hissing noise. It sounded like it was coming from the rear, right of the car. I kept driving but I heard it again so I pulled over, and checked tires, exhaust, anything I could think of but everything seemed normal. It only happened once more but then it didn't happen the rest of the way home. The only other thing I've noticed is that also, when I take my foot off the gas to slow down, I hear a grinding noise from the back, could this be the rear diff. and it's low on oil? That's been happening for a while now but the hissing just happened today, and I doubt it's the turbo because I know what it sounds like spooling up. Thanks a lot.

I just had the same problem and i thought it was a major problem but before you start freaking out, i think your problem is just the brake prads, they're probably worn out, take the front tires out and check them, i'm pretty positive that's the problem.

Do you think that will solve the hissing noise too? It sounds like air is hissing out of something, like my tire is going flat, but it isn't.

Well if i am correct and it is your brake pads then the hissing noise is because the brake pads are grinding on your brake disc, that's what happen to me so you'll have to get the brake disc grind down or replaced them, but it only take slike 5minutes to check your pads so you should go and do that.

Oh, I see, that makes sense then. I hope you're right but I can't check right now because it's dark outside and I don't have a garage  But I will have to check tomorrow, along with my rear diff. fluid level. Thanks for the help, I will post back letting you know what happens.
