High rise spoiler conversion ?'s

I did the high rise spoiler conversion recently and was wondering about the third brake light. I like having the third brake light but it seems like everyone just disconnects it because of glare off the hatch window. Is it really that bad? This is on a 2g.

Yes it is really bad I don't know why but it so bright. So I just deleted mine.

Glare from the third brake light in the hatch? Never had issues of that sort. I say keep it connected or better yet, try it out and judge for yourself you're the driver after all.

While your state might not require a third tail-light, the Feds do. Have since 1986, IIRC.

I've owned two 2Gs with the low rise spoiler and have several friends with the high rise I've never really have any problem with glare in any of the cars although i have been pulled over for the lack of middle brake light in my 98 RS. I would say speak with you local police dept to make sure there not going to give you a ticket for a burned out light if you plan to disconnect it. You have a much better chance of being blinded by the truck behind you than your own spoiler.

when i was 16 and got my dsm i took the 3rd brake light out cause i just didn't like the look of it and i didn't know it was a federal law. now 18, been pulled over twice and neither cops have mentioned it (only got away with warnings too)

If you've been paying attention to the "battle" between Arizona and the DoJ over immigration law, then you know that local jurisdictions are not obligated to enforce federal laws and the DoJ seems to think that they are not allowed to enforce federal laws. Thus, if your state doesn't have a third-tail-light law (and last time I checked, only a few did), the local cops will probably ignore it. However, a state cop on an interstate highway is less likely to ignore it and the lack of a third tail-light can be used by someone who rear-ends you as an "excuse" to make it your fault.

I deleted mine probably right after i bought my car in 09. It rattled bad and was messing the rear tint up in the window. I had no intentions of replacing it so i picked up a upper hatch plastic from a GS. The GS plastic doesnt have that cut out for the third light. Looks like there was never on there from factory. I DD my car from Pa to Nj everyday and have yet to get stopped for not having that light. I know the laws but i choose to do it anyway. Though many people at work say my third brake light is out, but they really mean my center eclipse reflector. I told them that its not supposed to light up and they just look at me like WTF...

Haha me too. I knew a lot of dsmers just delete it. I wasn't sure if it worth the hassle to go out of my way to install it. If the whole tail light lit up, that'd be sweet. I seen that guy who did it with LEDs and thought it was awesome.

I plan on doing something like the LED tails but I want to just lite up the outer parameter of all 3 lights. Kinda like the new dodge's.

Awesome idea. The chargers look sick at night. I've always been a big fan of the spoiler from the 3000gts with the led in it.
